I've had pretty good luck using the default settings, but I'm not running any really challenging games, and I'm not sure I've ever set up the sound all the way... I forget. So, which game(s) are you having trouble with? Or is it just in win 3.11 sound playback itself having trouble?

If you want a quick way to test how well a joystick is working in dosbox and which axes are being used with the current configuration, I wrote a little dos program to do that. It's much faster than loading the game to find out: http://joelmcintyre.com/joymon.html
