I see and hear all of your suggestions. I was going to build this with components on hand as I am a "picker" at my local recycler. I will have to wait until the best parts find their way to me. After all, new stuff comes in weekly.

I used to run Win2k on an AMD K6-266 clocked to 300 Mhz and it was a bit of a crawl on 64MB RAM It runs but not at any speed for gaming, etc. At least not on any Pentium MMX or K6 equivalent.

I get it too. Sorry if I sounded snarky. MY opinion is thus: It isn't a bad collection of parts for the price. The video card and cpu combo should ensure all current games play decently at 1080p Let us know if you buy it and post pix of the unboxing ceremony 😀

P233MMX is the slowest system I'd put Win98 on. Even then there was an 18-month delay between the release of the CPU and the OS, which was a long time in computing terms back then. I do however find Win98 a bit more stable than 95 and it's nice to have support for ATA DMA, USB, LS120 drives etc. …

Just a quick thought. Are you certain this motherboard doesn't have a USB header pin set on the board for a USB port? I have an older Asus Socket 5 board that has the header and I can plug a bracket USB port into it. If so, this would save you some heartache. Of course it will be USB 1.1
