I'd check the PSU as many old PC's seem to be having leaking capacitors or other problems. Usually an easy fix, but you need to "pop the hood" to make sure.

Also beware when buying these from eBay. I got a Chinese fellow sending me RTC chips with dead batteries. There's really no way of knowing how old the stock is and I doubt they actually check if the battery is dead or not.
