Re: IBM Aptiva 2176-352 build

Nice find on the new board! It seems it already has the right voltage regulater for regular pentium processors, so swapping should be trouble-free. Although it is a little time-consuming to replace the board you'll see it isn't more difficult than swapping an ATX board in a normal case.

Re: Voodoo 5 5500 dvi question

I wouldn't call his cards exaclty cheap. But given the labour he puts in developing the cards, the current market prices and the fact that you get a brand new card instead of a used one, makes me think his prices are fair for what you get. However, if you think you can get a v5500 DVI for $400 or …

Re: Voodoo 5 5500 dvi question

Yes it is: https://www.vogons.org/memberlist.php?mode=viewprofile&u=27894 I don't know how active he is on Vogons, you can contact him on facebook as well: https://www.facebook.com/zxc64.hw As far as pci goes, I did see he made a pci version with pass-thru, but without hdmi/dvi. But you should ask …

Re: Voodoo 5 5500 dvi question

It does digital, I can convert the DVI to HDMI with a cable that works on monitor's that don't support analogue signals. I think Anthony even recreated the V5500 with a mini-HDMI connector, so if he still has some for sale you could just contact him and buy one instead of waiting for an original dvi …

Re: IBM Aptiva 2176-352 build

Now that's a sweet combination! As for aptiva parts in Europe: I'm from Europe myself, I got most parts from Italy, Poland and the UK (pre-brexit) through ebay. They're not as common as in the US, but they do come around eventually and usually aren't very expensive. :) Oh, and when you switch to one …

Re: IBM Aptiva 2176-352 build

I also did an additional test with a 200 Mhz pentium Overdrive. The bios didn't give any error messages, but also didn't report the clockspeed. Instead it just said Pentium ODP. So if you want a 200Mhz error free boot process (and also extra cpu power + MMX instructions) you might consider this cpu …

Re: IBM Aptiva 2176-352 build

Well I did some testing and can confirm I have your issue as well on this board. None of the 3x modi seem to work without a bios error: 150 Mhz (50Mhz) 165 Mhz (55Mhz) 180 Mhz (60Mhz) 200 Mhz (66Mhz) If you don't mind ignoring the error every boot, the processor will probably work fine at 200 Mhz …

Re: IBM Aptiva 2176-352 build

It's weird the aptiva doesn't accept the 200Mhz speed. I only know of issues with 233 Mhz. Am I correct that you have motherboard FRU12H2015 in your aptiva? I have that same board lying around as a spare, if it's the same I can do some testing as well to see if I can help you out.

Re: IBM Aptiva 2176-352 build

Welcome to the aptiva family! :D The only way to change the language on the aptiva bios is to reflash the bios with the correct language (there is no menu option). I am not aware of any bios file (or bios mod) that allows disks larger than the 8GB limit. Personally I added a pci RAID card to get my …

Re: Diamond Stealth III S540 32Mb

I finally found a source for the latest Diamond Stealth III S540 Bioses: https://web.archive.org/web/20020812145146fw_ … tealth3s540.htm Just posting it here so that anyone searching in the future can find them as well.

Re: Dual (SLI) Voodoo2 1000 worth it?

Faulty IDE controller? I don't know. Speedsys and the BIOS pick them up, but DOS and Win 98 Setup can't find them. I have had some issues with certain IDE cables on some boards. Is the IDE cable you are using a 40 or 80 pin? I read it shouldn't matter which one you use (well, only for speed) but in …

Re: Win98SE best PCI sound card?

I am a bit curious what the Advantage of an Audigy 4 Pro would have over the Audigy 2 ZS in Windows 98. To my understanding it brings EAX4 support (but I think there are no Windows 98 Games that support EAX4) and has slightly better sound quality. But since the sound quality of the Audigy 2 ZS is …

Re: Win98SE best PCI sound card?

The cards Pierre32 mentions are great cards if you intend to play dos games on your machine due to their great compatibility. My 2 personal favorites are the Aureal Vortex 2 and Creative Audigy 2 ZS. They have fantastic sound quality, the Vortex has the best surround sound available in Windows 98, …
