Re: Post your 'current' PC

This isn't really my current PC because I use other computers much more frequently. But it's certainly my fastest PC and when it comes to getting work done (long coding session), I don't hesitate to sit down at it. 2600k@4.5Ghz 32GB DDR3 Gigabyte Z77X-UD5H Corsair H90 with Noctua PWM fan Sapphire …

Mine is a the perspective of living in a hyperbolic 3-manifold. It's a screen shot from https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o6SucT2Zzys&feature=youtu.be&t=2173 More generally it's a hyperbolic manifold, so it's locally euclidean, but globally has negative constant sectional curvature: https://en. …

Re: Baby K6-III+ Rebuild

I had stitches in maybe 2006 for building someone a computer with an ultra cheap case. I think I was removing those metal 5.25" covers in order to put a drive in. You like rotate them until they snap off. Anyway way too much force that time and it wasn't pretty. So I do know bad cases. This one from …

The mandatory updates are kind of terrifying. Microsoft gets to push whatever binary blobs it wants on to your computer and you'll have no clue clue what's in the source Updates are only mandatory if you continue to use the Insider Preview program, whereby the trade-off for "getting Windows for …

Windows 11 will be a mandatory update from Windows 10 I predict. I may be beating a dead trojan horse here, but there are unsettling things straight from their privacy statement: Finally, we will access, disclose and preserve personal data, including your content (such as the content of your emails, …

The mandatory updates are kind of terrifying. Microsoft gets to push whatever binary blobs it wants on to your computer and you'll have no clue clue what's in the source. I think the irony of a trojan virus for windows is windows being the trojan itself. Like a small wooden horse full of cats inside …

Re: Asus P2B-DS?

You can check P2B compatibility here: http://homepage.hispeed.ch/rscheidegger/p2b_p … pgrade_faq.html You need a P2B-DS rev 1.06, with D03 (written at the bottom of the ISA slots) for mod free coppermine support. I have one of these boards (LNIB actually) but I haven't used it yet.

computer lab Actually, what is a computer lab? I've got the general idea because it's a common reference, but how was it structured? Was it a regular instruction class, or just regular access for mostly self-study time, more like the library? Depending on the school it could be both. I went to a …

Depends on determination. With out an formula you analyze individual components to get to it. Some people analyze programs and alter them with hand made code, like for example Valve Hammer Editor 3.5 modifications. But I understand you, it would be nice if you could interact more with things. T61 …

Nobody can stop you to modify what you own. There is so much way somebody can steal from and spy you today that its absurd to be obsessed with security. If somebody wanted to take your "shit" they already took it :) No trollin, just personal experience. Windows 8.1 is by far the best Windows I have …

What illegal and shameful activities are you doing with your computer if you need total privacy? Since Windows 8.1 was the best windows ever made so far I am guessing Windows 10 will be good as well. But due to age of my T61 I will give it some time to mature. Assuming you're serious, for me …

I like this place. Proper nerds all around =) I suppose my only hobby outside of retro computing is mathematics (hence my avatar of flying around in a hyperbolic manifold). It's a great world to just think in.

I would only ever user linux for personal computing because proprietary operating systems in 2015 are privacy nightmares. That said, if I were tempted by a DX12 title, I would consider a gaming only boot partition of W10. That hasn't happened yet.
