Re: Fixing an old 486?

There is a raspberry pi running kermit with a DigiKey usb->RS232 adapter attached. The 486 runs CKermit. The Raspberry Pi hits a restful endpoint, grabs the midi file, sends it via kermit to a ram drive on the dos machine, and sends commands over kermit to run dos programs to play the midi file. I …

Re: Fixing an old 486?

I forgot to mention: the FCC ID is listed in the back end of the machine, or underneath. Also, what is the BIOS version? Is it 1.01 Ref ID xx? The machine is busy now running that website, so I don't really want to mess with it right now. If\when it crashes, I'll check again, but I just bolted the …

Re: The Motherlode!

....and the soundcard is a Yamaha YMF719-s OPL3. Not exactly sure what it is, the closest I can find is an Audician 32. The model "ATC-6631" indicates that it's manufatured by Atrend. So, I got it. The bios is just trashy. The floppy controller is outright toast. Turning off the controllers in bios and using a controller card doesn’t work. I installed a software bios helper, EzDrive, which takes over 13h functions. This works. Boots 6.22, Freedos, and 98 now, on a 4gb cf and …

Re: Fixing an old 486?

I think it's a 430 or 440 motherboard. The model of the computer is a BL120CD Not sure where the FCC ID is. Maybe it has a hardware issue. I am trying multiple CF cards, none of them will boot, off the EIDE controller card or off the onboard controller. CHS settings are detecting properly, same as …

Fixing an old 486?

I have an old packard bell. It’s a 486, somewhere I have a digital copy of the manual and the model. The floppy controller I’m pretty sure is dead. What has been frustrating is that even with one of those SIIG eide controller cards with the helper bios, it hangs before trying to boot from floppy The …
