Re: The most misleading game intros

in Milliways
Doki Doki Literature Club! if one counts the entire first act of the game. Of course the entire premise of this game is making it appear to be something it is not. This in my opinion is one of the most interesting concepts in horror games, making you get used and feeling "safe" about the game you …

The most misleading game intros

in Milliways
Hey everyone, Just had this curiosity, which are the most misleading game intros you know of? By misleading I mean, intros that make the player think the game is something totally different than the actual game. Note that it doesn't have to mean the game is bad... Personally, I have two: X-COM: UFO …

Re: Denuvo has published a book on the dangers of emulators

in Milliways
It seems to me, when a corporation has reached the point when they can afford to screw their consumers, they will screw their consumers. No exception. I think, sadly, you are right. It doesnt even have to be malice - just the clumsy overbearing application of 'copyright' to everything. Things are …

Re: Denuvo has published a book on the dangers of emulators

in Milliways
I agree with them on something... emulation IS stealing... It's the industry stealing decades of unpaid work done by countless people developing and supporting emulation at a time when the industry didn't care about their old products. They basically just waited for emulation to get mature enough so …

Re: percentage of old PCs and components that are saved?

I know, it's not an solution to this problem, but.. If everything fails, there's still an FPGA implementation of a 80486 core. It could be expanded to Pentium level, perhaps. https://github.com/MiSTer-devel/ao486_MiSTer That way, there will still be "real" hardware to tinker with in the future. For …

Re: Best Performance Config for PCem

Do you mean best as fastest or something efficient that runs 100% on average CPUs? Or fastest machine that you can setup using PCEM? I have a low end CPU (Pentium G6400) and due to it being a 4ghz CPU, it can emulate an ok machine without any hiccups: -Pentium 166mmx -64mb RAM -Virge S3 Card -Sound …

Re: Video games are too heavily monetized these days

in Milliways
The money's all that matters now with games, the heart, soul and the spirt are long gone. I'm having the time of my life at the moment with a game released in 2021, and it's free. And no it's not freemium. I think some of you guys just like making dramatic statements on the internet. Nah, their …

Re: Your opinion on the ATi Rage IIC and Rage Pro

Have an ATI Rage PRO Turbo 8mb AGP 2x and IMHO it's an OK card for DOS games (mine does have the scrolling problem with commander Keen, but the vast majority of games have no issues). It's quite capable in games using OpenGL and direct3d once you find the right drivers. Can get GLQuake to run at …

Re: games on consoles you wish were released on PC

in Milliways
Was a fan of SNK games, at the time before emulation became accessible, I wished for PC ports of Metal Slug and The King of Fighters series. And for a long time, wished for ports of Resident Evil Remake, Resident Evil 0 and Doom 64. Only many years after release the PC ports were released.

Re: How do you plan a new retro-build? How did you?

in Milliways
Well, since I can't have everything and space is limited, I usually plan any retro build based on it's utility and some kind of "technological milestone" it represents. That means I try to avoid builds which are redundant and cover too much of the same era, right now I have only two retro builds: 1- …
