Re: Simmconn AWE64 Adapter

@badmojo It would be a 'no' for the idea of designing the FPM or EDO DRAM chip on the board directly. It requires much more advanced skills and expensive simulation tools to design the PCB layout. It will become a 4-layer board at least and cost will go up a lot, not to mention the scarcity of the …

Re: Simmconn AWE64 Adapter

Something along this line for TWO PCBs for the revival (extra PCB to hold current SimmConns as well as the current design) http://i.imgur.com/sEw2bVVl.png Or this for an XL SimmConn http://i.imgur.com/UxEjtPTl.png Or this, just a big square and no "L" http://i.imgur.com/NL8u1pwl.png Anyways. Ideas. …

Re: Simmconn AWE64 Adapter

It's actually a good idea, in that we don't need to be limited to the current outline of the adapter. We could extend the adapter toward the end of AWE64, for about the length of the AWE64 memory headers. Then the SIMM socket can 'lie down' and change from through-hole mount to straddle mount. It …

Re: Simmconn AWE64 Adapter

Don't waste your money on the right-angle SIMM socket. They look neat but are still too tall (will conflict with card in the next slot). IMHO you shouldn't even spend money on any new SIMM slot. They should be quite cheap and abundant in the surplus market, something like $0.50 each. Oh so you're …

Re: Simmconn AWE64 Adapter

You're welcome! If somebody can get me the newer part numbers and data sheet for the GAL ? that is no longer produced, I can see if I can maybe rework the board design to fit the new chip. It just depends on how different it is. I did a search for the original part and came up with this: http:// …

Re: Simmconn AWE64 Adapter

Xu Wang, Sorry about not linking you directly to the thread. I didn't think you were interested in communicating with us, or I would of linked it to you. But turned out you found it anyway, so it worked out :) I'm the one that's been emailing you about it most recently. I've been wondering if …

Re: Simmconn AWE64 Adapter

Xu Wang, I would like to thank you on behalf of the retrogaming community for your project. I'm one of those who ordered a SIMMconn value from you in 2014, and have been using it ever since. Thank you for making your design open, because I am sure it will be picked up and actualized. Speaking of …

Re: Simmconn AWE64 Adapter

Hi Guys, Glad to join the discussion! It was the summer break after my first year in grad school when I started the SIMMConn design. At the time the AWE64 was the cream of the crop of sound cards. I couldn't afford the Gold version, let alone the Creative memory modules. Using the 72-pin SIMM seems …
