The AWE 64 can emulate an MT32 but it’s pretty rubish at it. It fairs a bit better as a GM card.

There might be an advantage with SCSI CD roms with lower CPU load especially on 486 and below.

I got this 386 DX33 a little while ago, I finally got a chance to play with it. It was running very slow, I figured it out in the end, de-turbo was fixed wired on. It’s running very average now. 🤣

486dx100 looks about right to me, definately too modern for a 386.

No point in duelling on the graphics card and ISA SCSI until he figures out whats up with the CPU speed. Its way too low for a Pentium 120/133. I’d run a cachechk as a next step.

Just got around to testing it with Dreamblaster X2, it is very quiet compared to my Roland cards. It is set to the high volume setting. Any ideas? I don’t have another wavetable or external midi to try at the moment.

well it depends if you care about image quality as mich as compatibility with some games. I guess if you really want to run those games that are only compatible with a voodoo 1 there is no choice. But for someone already considering other 3DFX cards the Voodoo 3 is a good option.

I have one Trident TVGA 8900D that i got for cheap just for testing, but from what i was told, this board would slow down even a 386, which makes sense, i got mine from a lot of parts from a junk 286 machine(mobo was in a terrible shape, however the expansion cards were good, the mobo i dessoldered …

It’s down to the implementation of the DVI on the graphics card, the DVI version of the Voodoo 5500 is great in the regard.

Yeap it got to be so bad in the TX97E Asus board I have it installed in, that I had the reset sysex commands in batch files in the autoexec path statement so I could just type it at anytime. I remember it happening most when exiting Sierra games and I think when exiting the original Wing Commander. …

Prices are about what they were when the card was released, without taking inflation into account so still a bargain 😀

It is a large card so hard to fit, but I’ve never come across hanging note issues, I’ve had the card since 92.

It does happen, lots of fake silver label Commodore 64’s appear on Ebay. As long as It’s either for personal use or an obvious reproduction then who cares?

I think the Voodoo 3 is a good first voodoo to get, combined 2D and 3D, good video output quality. Pleanty of availablillty, prices aren’t too stupid.

Some games don’t work if you have too much ram, Privateer only works with 16MB (or lower)

I have a 4 sound card setup, AWE 64 Gold, Resound OPL3, LAPCI, RAP10 it all coexists perfactly fine, no need for boot menus for different sound configs. :) It's not a marvel because only two of them do require IO, IRQ, DMAs at the same time. Two others are only synths and not difficult in co- …
