Re: MIDI Loop Oddity, possible buffer issue?

well you haven't mentioned anything about the first notes after the loop being played too quickly, you just said it's skipping some silence at the end. your example matches the issue i mentioned in my previous post, i have also checked it in dosbox (old 0.74 version) and it's somewhat present there …

Re: MIDI Loop Oddity, possible buffer issue?

what makes you think that that particular track should have silence at the end? there is some kind of OST version with extra reverb on youtube that does, but ingame i don't get the silence either. or maybe it differs between versions of the game, because the audio driver changed over time as well. …

MIDI Loop Oddity, possible buffer issue?

I posted about this before about two years ago. To put simply, I have two SC-55, only one of which (the Mk.II) I use on my modern rig for old games as well as music composition. Something I notice about the playback with both SC-55s is that they don't correctly loop some MIDIs. For example, "I Sawed …

Re: Suggestions for Amps/Preamps for SC-55

I dunno. When I was first setting up my SC-55 and posting about my initial trouble (of which was a bad MIDI to USB converter cable and incorrect set up) I was recommended to plug it into an amp or preamp before passing the audio to my computer. I assume it has something to do with having finer …

Suggestions for Amps/Preamps for SC-55

For about 2 years I've had my SC-55 and been pretty happy with it, but I have it set up in a very basic manner. Just an RCA to Aux cable to run the audio directly into my PC's rear Mic/Aux In port. I was recommended to get an Amp for it, but I have no idea what I should look for.

Re: SC-55 MIDI Looping oddity

I've run into a similar issue where certain music sounded a little off with the MT-32, and ended up being simply related to speed sensitivity. If you already reset the SC-55, you might try slowing down your system with SetMul. Another thing to try to rule out the system is output MIDI from a modern …

SC-55 MIDI Looping oddity

So, ever since I first got it fully set up I've been enjoying my SC-55 (primarily with old FPSs like Doom, Duke3D, Blood, etc.), but I've noticed an oddity with the playback of some MIDIs that I can't explain or remedy. But to best describe it, some MIDIs restart too soon. For example, "I Sawed the …

Re: Roland SC-55 help

The cable I was using originally, supplied 1Amp of power. That's an issue, since the SC55 only needs half an amp (500mA). Just so you know for the future, this is actually fine. Over on amps, it will only take what it needs (500 from 1000). Under is a problem because it tries to draw the 500 from a …

Re: Roland SC-55 help

Don't buy cheapy usb-midi cables. Save yourself the headache and get a um-one. It does sysmessages properly. UPDATE 11/12/2021 I got a new power cable for my SC55 aswell as an UM-One Mk.2. Currently listening to the FATE theme and it is working perfectly. So all I needed was a high quality cable …

Re: Roland SC-55 help

If a MIDI file stutters when played via a MIDI DIN connector but not through VirtualMIDISynth, it's either the MIDI cable is operating at a slower speed than normal, or the MIDI file itself is not timed properly for communication overhead. If you're talking about the Build engine game Fate, the …

Re: Roland SC-55 help

So uh, new problem. I dunno if it's because of the cheap converter cord I am using or what but the SC55's playback stutters on some MIDIs. For example I was just listening to the test music from Fate (via DOSBox) and it stuttered. So I used DOSBox's inbuilt MIDI capture and dumped the RAW midi file …

Re: Roland SC-55 help

Your motherboard should have a line in Jack -- find it, and get an RCA stero -> headphone jack cable to connect from Roland to PC. You probably dont have one of those lying around, but they are pretty cheap and easy to find most places. You're talking about a 3.5mm Audio Jack-to-Red n White RCA …

Re: Roland SC-55 help

Do you have any speakers in your house at all? Not really, no. I'm just trying to use this for MIDI playback on my PC, which entails being able to output it to my headphones (HyperX Cloud II Wireless Headset w/ USB receiver) I should also clarify I'm trying to use this on my main (modern) PC.
