Not sure if this is a good area for a repair thread or not, but if any gurus want to follow along with my attempt at diagnosis/repair then feel free to chime in  Board: STO98-5VL VER: 3.3 https://stason.org/TULARC/pc/motherboards/A/AUVA-COMPUTER-INC-486-CAM-25-P9-CAM-33-P9-CAM-33-F-80.html s- …

Re: Found my white buffalo...

Hey thanks for the translates and article pics, I'm impressed lol. After a busy couple weeks and finals 2 days away, I managed to do the RTC mod, picked a drive type in cmos, saved, and she rebooted into dos5. I typed win, and she dropped into Windows 3.1 (non workgroups). Not too shabby. There's …

Re: Found my white buffalo...

... unknown HDD size That'll be 44MB or 65MB , depending on whether MFM or RLL is in use by the controller card. That's an HDD from before Toshiba switched to specializing in laptop HDDs in the mid-1990s. Looks like the keyboard connector on the front panel was never hooked up. Yeah, the hole has a …

Re: Found my white buffalo...

I know what you all mean, I'll admit I was quite shocked. The next venture will be to mod or remove the RTC, its dead. Maybe that's how I'll continue this thread for a while. Other than that this thing smells new, and runs surprisingly quiet. IMG_20181115_193440414.jpg IMG_20181115_193453516.jpg IMG …

Found my white buffalo...

Hey everyone, its been a while since I've made a post. Here's something new. I haven't taken any time to really inspect anything other than that it powers up and seems to function correctly. From: General Store - Helena, Montana Pros: In original packaging with original keyboard. Cons: Dead CMOS, …

Re: Some 8088 Portable Love

Can you run the old Norton Utilities System Information (SI) and show what it displays? Here are some pictures from Norton-Utils. Me, too. That machine is quite charming, looks a bit like a classic oscilloscope to me. Thanks for the SaveRom tip, and funny you mention the oscilloscope. When DOE used …

Re: Some 8088 Portable Love

Sure can, may I ask what your interest is? Just curiosity? Anyways I think I remember seeing a Norton folder on the Worm-Drive, might have some utilities on there. Otherwise I only have Norton-Utils on 5 1/4, I'll figure it out either way when I'm home.

Re: Some 8088 Portable Love

Here are some 'ok' photos. The card furthest to the outside is the video card. Looks to have 1x CGA/EGA and 1x RCA display ports on the back. I haven't spent much time on the inside. The CPU is a NEC V20, the MathCo is an Intel 8087. I'm curious what clock the CPU is at. When you boot the machine it …

Re: Some 8088 Portable Love

Originally this machine would of had the hard card disk drive. Well, according to that DOE document the card here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hardcard#/media/File:Plus_Hardcard_20_with_plexiglass_cover.JPG was in their order of the unit, same brand. I can also say there have been cards taken out …

Re: Some 8088 Portable Love

Thanks everyone. I've actually done some heavy research on this portable. It is a model dataCAT by DATACRAFT, INC Garden, California. The only documentation I could pull up on the system was a report done by DOE in 1987 found here https://fas.org/sgp/othergov/doe/lanl/lib-www/la-pubs/00120075.pdf , …

Some 8088 Portable Love

Recently picked up this unit. Just wanted to share as I thought this was an odd looking Compatible. Might post pictures of some of the controllers inside as I'm having trouble identifying them. That is if anyone is interested in looking. Otherwise here's the oddball.
