Is it safe to be running memory testing programs in faulty memory? How does CheckIt protect itself from getting corrupted? (SpinRite immediately shuts down when it detects bad memory.)

Hi all. I recently acquired a mid-1980s PC/XT clone which (according to SpinRite) has faulty memory. I believe the chips it uses are 4164 and 41256 class 16-pin DIP DRAM modules. How do folks usually go about testing this kind of memory?

As with CDs, it helps if they're stored in cool, dark and dry environments. Also as with CDs, 5.25" floppies shouldn't be stacked on top of each other.

Yes, if you have one in working condition I advise you to put it away and use it as little as possible. 10 MB is tiny anyway and not good for very much.
