October 1997 is also when the first GTA came out. It can be run in both DOS and Windows but DOS is better IIRC because it has Voodoo support which is missing in the Windows version.

Is EBCDIC still a thing? I remember messing around with that a few years ago when I was learning about text encodings. EditPadLite can read EBCDIC files.

I just switch browsers when something like this happens. I have 14 modern browsers installed (plus an old version of Navigator for legacy compatibility reasons.) If one does something that annoys me, I just launch another.

Yes that's aggravating. Endless annoyances trying to clone 250 GB laptop HDDs onto 250 GB SSDs. I had to get 256 GB SSDs for it to work.

I noticed that. IIRC, I fixed it in software (IL-2) by configuring a 'deadzone' where no input is registered, so the aircraft doesn't drift when you take your hand off the stick. (This is separate from the trim settings)

As I recall I made the switch from a 7600 GS AGP to a 8400 GS PCIe circa 2010. This was also when I switched from Windows XP to Windows 7 and from 32-bit to 64-bit.
