probably the biggest sound difference is that the jv1010 is 32khz, the d70 is 44/48khz. they have different rom sample size, so.. of course its going to sound different. the jv1010 has a 24-bit AK4324 DAC, the D70 I believe uses a 24bit PCM1716 and does 8 times oversampling. character is good :) I …

the overlap with your 486 is huuuuge. to me, not different enough to warrant a build so close in era. I'd go with the sb16 and not the live, that way you get good sound support in dos that the live lacks. the k6 will give you good performance with pentium era demos + games the 486 couldnt handle :P …

checkit running memory tests wont really exercise the bus, so its interesting that the memtest ran for hours with but one error, but when you start using cards on the bus playing CoK (disk reads, etc), it locks up much sooner.

yep. I have the XL2430T which is the 24" version, its great. I hook my SS7 up to it. can force it into 4:3 and stuff. works fantastically.
