IIRC, SW1 lets you see the two previous codes before the ones currently displayed. And yes, the speaker works as expected if you connect it to the motherboard using a two-pin wire.

I often do this as well - works pretty well. Cut resistor legs are very useful, I tend to save them for repair jobs like this 😀 For thinner tracks I usually use kynar wire in the same fashion. Looks pretty snazzy and unless you are looking at it intently, you can't even notice it.

Might be a driver issue? What kind of drivers are you using on XP? IIRC I have tested my own Voodoo 3 3000 PCI under XP with the AmigaSport (I think, will check later) drivers. You could try with those and/or the AmigaMerlin and SFFT drivers and see if the situation improves 😀
