Re: The easiest way to create a custom VGA palette

Thanks, I'm not entirely satisfied myself with my VGA tilemaps, that's why I plan to add more colors from the VGA color bank to get the red- and turquoise colors I'm missing (some of the levels in Keen 6 needs more color to get rid of the dithering on my tilemaps, and I'm not happy with some of the …

Re: The easiest way to create a custom VGA palette

Thanks for the detailed explanation. Aseprite is able to use any png file as a color palette file, so then I can make a color palette file as a png file, convert it to a gif file to make sure it got the right values for the color bank of VGA and maybe reconvert it back to png again. I understand …

Re: The easiest way to create a custom VGA palette

So what I gathered of info are; convert a customized color palette from a 24 bit image to an 18 bit image (somehow), and I get values in my palette that are compatible with the color bank of the VGA palette? Where's my upper limit of colors in the 256 color palette then; 250 colors or something like …

Re: The easiest way to create a custom VGA palette

I can chose whichever palette I would like to chose, but I have to include the 16 EGA colors in my custom VGA palette as the first 16 colors. While adding more colors to the 16 color tilemaps, I've chosen the VGA 13h palette in Aseprite …

There might have been more progress in recent years however. I also tried a very similar program called 86box, which began its life as a fork of PCem. …

Lurid Land - the Windows 9x version is not working

in Windows
Lurid Land is a game I discovered more than half-a-life ago while browsing a random demo CD; the game is more like a Lode Runner with more focus on puzzles (runs in 800x600). The game (luckily) got both a MS-DOS version and a Windows 9x version. Using DOSBox combined with Gravis Ultrasound settings …

Getting Mission Kellogg's to run on modern PCs

in Windows
A long time ago I mail-ordered a game called Mission Kellogg's after filing a coupon in a Kellogg's cereal box. This is a game that reminds a bit of the old Donkey Kong Country games, made for Windows 9x and runs in a resolution of 640x480. I have struggled for many years trying to make this game …
