Well, after wrestling with it for awhile, it doesn't look like 16 bit's an option. It seems to only want to do 8 or 24, and I'm sure not running 8 ;)

Changing the res of X under Solaris isn't very easy. It would be nice if it just ran under 24 bit, especially since chances are it's something silly that's preventing it :) But in the interest of debugging, I'll swap to 16 bit and see what happens. :) Steve
