Heh, I thought that I broke something when I was cutting into the RTC chip straight on the motherboard (without de-soldering it first). Glad that the trick worked for you all.

Thank you for all the links.I'll try to somehow upload them, especially that the system does not have a floppy drive (only dvd). Getting the recovery images will be hard, especially in Poland... However thank you for the information and the links, they are a good start.

I would stick with manufacturers bios only. If it does not solve the hdd situation you can use EZ-Drive or something similar, works very well.

What is the max hdd size the BIOS can handle? Usually my systems hang when I try hdd to big for given bios.

Yes it has a CMOS utility and I used it before. When the battery died I could still enter the setup, but the settings were not saved (which is to be expected). I then left the system for about 2 weeks, reworked the RTC and the problem occurred - hard lock upon entering the setup. So far nothing …

Unfortunately it did not help. It's driving me nuts, everything works except entry to CMOS. It even detected a small HDD and started a system from it... I just cannot get into bios to set date and time and manually set my bigger HDD.

I do not have such. Besides IDE controler is not the problem. It runs OK, I just cannot enter CMOS setup.

I did a continuity test, it looks good. I'm considering rewiring the paths just in case, but I do not know if this is a good idea.

Ok, no settings work with my HDD, whatever I choose (CHS, ECHS, LBA) I always get 504 MB. I decided to reinstall the system once more using EZ-Drive. Seems to work like a charm.

I have the newest bios so it is disabled. Regarding hdd my setup works the same way however I should be able to get up to 2 GB with lbaenabled on the hdd. I understand why autodetection does not work but lba should give me 2 gb with manual settings of the hdd parameters. Or am I wrong?

Another question about this board. The manual states that the RZ1000 controller allows using more than 528MB of HDD space. I read somewhere that the actual limit is 2GB.
