Re: Retro system log

Yesterday evening a small package arrived at my door! It was the athlon xp 3200! I installed the CPU and a new cooler with cooper base. I used arctic silver 5 but the temperatures are a bit high in my opinion: idle at around 42C and full load at around 49C. The duron 1800 never exceeded 46C. Another …

Re: Retro system log

The first pictures with the system: the black object from the last picture is the ssd tray from the cooler master haf xb! Also this is a very shy attempt of IDE cable management 😊 ! The front panel audio connector is the green one with 14 pins with 4 of them jumpered off

Re: Retro system log

The front panel connector is jumpered off because it's a 14 pin connector that does not match either the AC97 or the hd audio of the case which is 10 pin. Also the manual states that once the front panel audio is connected the rear panel stops functioning and I don't want to loose the 5.1 audio …

Re: Retro system log

Sorry for the delay but I got caught up in work. 1. Regarding the audio problem: tried uninstalling and installing again nforce and realtek drivers with no luck! Had to fresh install Windows XP SP3. 2. I tried to copy from a 1000gb Western Digital black hard drive all drivers and goodies but every …

Re: Retro system log

I used a floppy to install silicon image drivers and it worked! Windows XP sp3 successfully installed! Now I installed n force drivers and it went fine, it recognized my 5.1 sound system. Afterwards I installed realtek drivers and all sound is gone! I was thinking the n force audio drivers and the …

Re: Retro system log

I will post pictures soon! In the meantime I tried to test install windows XP but it can't find any HDD connected to the system despite having 1 Maxtor 80 SATA1 hard drive that I know is good connected and recognized by the board! Do I need to load some extra drivers before the Windows Xp setup …

Re: Retro system log

First test done today! Results: the motherboard would not boot and got stuck while trying to save bios settings; problem solved with a new 3V battery. After reviewing the BIOS I noticed the version is 15! The last version is 19. Should I attempt to flash or no? (all CPU, RAM, HDD, ODD and FDD were …

Re: Retro system log

Today I got the Abit an7 with floppy, IDE, and Sata cables; the board looks fine, maybe a little dust on it, but otherwise all capacitors are in good shape and they are Rubycon! I cleaned up the board myself with a soft brush and it's shining again. I even got the input - output shield. The CPU is a …

Re: Retro system log

This is a picture of corsair TX 750w v2 PSU that I have; it is 25A on 3.3V and 5V: Shoud this be enough or should I search for a Delta PSU? PS: also found an athlon xp 3200 with fsb400 which I know it is the most powerful socket A chip unless I could find the extremely rare Athlon xp 3200 with fsb …

Re: Retro system log

On the local equivalent of eBay an Abit AN7 just appeared; the seller still has the I/O shield and all the cables and say s is a fully functional board minus the north bridge fan that makes lots of noise! This motherdoard has a 4 pin pentium 4 style CPU connector! Also he is willing to give me a …

Re: Retro system log

After careful considerations I consider the 2 remaining choices to be: scoket 478 and socket A; both have full windows 9X/2000 support, have AGP video cards and I don't have to use any "modded" software. I rejected socket 754 because a friend of mine also with old games nostalgia tried and failed to …

Re: Retro system log

I eliminated socket 939 from the list because chipset compatibility with windows 9x is sketchy at best after reading over 20 motherboards manuals! Also PCI express GPU do not play well with windows 9X. Also I drop windows XP compatibility because I have a core duo for that. What I would like to know …

Re: Retro system log

On what socket? I had a via motherboard with kt400 chipset and it was awful regarding performance; a friend with nforce2 had more fps in every game with the same CPU and VGA, if we switched boards I would get "his fps" and he would get "mine fps" despite both having duron and geforce4 (mx i think). …

Re: Retro system log

Yes, that is correct. Also the boards with nforce4-4x chipset does not natively support windows 9X and i plan to have 2 different hdd, one wtih windows 98se, one with windows XP. But the main reason is in my country it is very difficult to find athlon64 for socket 754 but very easy to find sempron ( …

Retro system log

Hello everyone! First of all I would like to say that the community here looks very nice, I have been reading the forum for a long time and I find a lot of useful information every time. Despite being a retro gamer only now I have found enough time to build my retro rig! It will be from scratch ( …
