Re: Computer with sentimental value - Win98 install - StarTech IDE to Sata adapters - Failure - Desperate for help

mockingbird: yes, picture below I see yours has the newer revision 88SA8052 without the Marvell logo. I will be conducting an experiment in the near future with my Ableconn adapter, namely with swapping the newer logo-less part with a new old stock part from 2010 or so. I had issues with the …

Re: Computer with sentimental value - Win98 install - StarTech IDE to Sata adapters - Failure - Desperate for help

Okay guys. Long story short here. I gave in and went to Best Buy to buy a 120GB PNY SSD. Everything started working immediately. There must have been something about my motherboard, the StarTech IDE to Sata, and SeaTools shrinking the drive size from 500GB to smaller. The only things I changed was …

Re: Computer with sentimental value - Win98 install - StarTech IDE to Sata adapters - Failure - Desperate for help

Just fdisk a 60GB part C and install. You can fit a lot of Windows 98 software on a 60GB partition. I have a computer with a Gigabyte GA-6OXET socket 370 motherboard with Pentium 3 933MHz cpu. 256 MB RAM. This computer is particularly important to me because it's my spouse's father's computer. He passed several years ago and unlike any other computer I toy with... I don't feel like I can give up …

Re: Is it possible that a Pentium 100Mhz computer would never be able to have a graphics card expansion?

Here's a picture: http://www.dansdata.com/images/buildpc/320/passthru.JPG top connector in this photo is the 2D card. Bottom connector is the Voodoo. The monitor plugs into the visible connector on the Voodoo. Do I have to have the 2D card or can this be accomplished by using the motherboard's VGA …

Re: Is it possible that a Pentium 100Mhz computer would never be able to have a graphics card expansion?

Canopus Pure3D is a Voodoo card. It needs a pass through cable connecting to the 2D graphics adapter. It is not intended to be used as a standalone graphics card and isn't supposed to drive the monitor when it is plugged directly into it. That makes sense, one problem though, there are no headers …
