Re: "Outrigger" OR840 build

Long time, no update. I've been way too busy to post around here, though I check every now and then to see what's going on. In any case, I received the heatsinks I ordered and they were taller than I anticipated, but they fit nicely in the slotket and don't touch the capacitors, which is all I …

Re: "Outrigger" OR840 build

I see. But what about using a gameport controller via the additional bracket of the Sound Blaster? This would free up a slot and still let you use a decent controller! I'm using Microsoft SideWinder game pads (gameport version) for games like Need for Speed or sports games. I haven't seen a better …

Re: "Outrigger" OR840 build

Well, close enough ;) I too don't like these windowed cases (or window case mods back then), or this modern all-tempered-glass-nonsense. But to each his own... I do however see the point of having the ability to lean back and enjoy the looks of cool hardware installed. Unfortunately, often people …

Re: "Outrigger" OR840 build

Corsair Carbide Quiet 600Q? Nice! I like it. A worthy home for this great system :) Looking forward to the additional pictures! I hope the hardware migration completes without any issues. Sorry to keep you—and anyone following this thread—waiting for pics, here are a few quick and not so good ones …

Re: Dual Tualatin Voodoo 5500 build

Would this just plug in and work with my motherboard? I'm probably going to stick with the IDE drives for the same reason I want a real floppy …

Re: Soundblaster Live Value and soundfont loading

In SB Live and later cards, Soundfonts run from the main system RAM (opposed to AWE 32/64 that had RAM on the sound card), so the drivers put a limit on Soundfont size. I wouldn't recommned to use soundfonts bigger than 32 mb on this card. There is a slider in Soundfont Bank Manager to increase the …

Re: TOP 5 videocards of all time

my list has just 3d capable hardware Voodoo2: SLI, legendary. Has to be here GeForce 256 / GeForce2: either of these. The former was the "revolution", the latter came soon after and was more widely available Radeon 8500: ATI waking up and giving GF3 a hard time Radeon 9700 / 9800: either of these. …

Re: Ebay thread goodbye thread

in Milliways
I work under the assumption people interested in old games and hardware actually know how to get their hands in old games and hardware, no need for a thread with "deals". I'd much rather see more users posting their builds and asking for (or giving) advice than discussing prices and lamenting they …
