I installed and tested an FM801 card on an i815EP motherboard yesterday and it worked 100% flawlessly both in Win98 and pure DOS.

Installing heatsinks on 486 CPUs is a hassle, brackets and heatsinks made for those prackets are always difficult to obtain and I don't want to use thermal adhesive tape that is a BITCH to remove afterwards on my previous vintage CPUs 🙁 Shame, really.

It was definitely OS/2 Warp 3 which hosted my BBS between 94 and 97. MS-DOS 6.0 is probably a close second. I loved MS-DOS 5.0 too, but to be honest the memory management tools of MS-DOS 6.0, oh screw that, the DELTREE command alone made the upgrade worthwhile.

I could say that in the time I have been playing PC games (1989 till today) the only PC platformer that I actually enjoyed was Alley Cat. If you can call it that. The genre on the PC was almost universally lame.

If it's a 3.3V model (AMD, Cyrix etc.) you can get away without a heatsink. For the 5V Intel models if it's a regular ceramic cpu you need a fan inside the case or a heatsink; the overdrive intel cpus come with permanent heatsinks so those are just plug and play.
