I downloaded TrackMania Nations, the free to play (before f2p became a warning sign!) from 2006 and it runs flawlessly on my Nvidida MX440 at 1080p! In TMN's bechmark it scores 39fps but is slightly higher in game. Didn't think I'd be doing 1080p gaming on a MX card 😜

It was an exaggeration - a genuine 5 minute wait is what normally happens. One other thing - when I say the screen goes black, the cursor is still on the there as a sand timer, and it moves and is responsive.

For what it's worth the 71.89 driver is working fine in SP1, I'm fairly sure it's sp3 that causes the black screens Have you tried SP2? you only mentioned SP1 and SP3 so it may be worth a shot to see if the problem happens in SP2, maybe your SIS chipset drivers are too old to work properly on SP3? …
