Re: Anyone got a Ryzen 7?

It's not a Ryzen 7, but I did get to test a 5 1600 before safety issues started (the GPU set off my smoke alarm) and I had to return it. It was a disappointment. With a single thread passmark over 1800, I was expecting it to give my old i3's a run for the money. My gold standard test is: 1) Start up …

SB 2.0 in Win 3.1: MIDI but no WAV output

I am trying to get the Sound Blaster 2.0 drivers to work in Windows 3.1 under Dosbox, and am running into a problem. All sound works fine in general DOS applications. But once I start Windows 3.1, I can get MIDI but no WAV output. It insists that I have no sound driver installed. I have the drivers …

SVN Daum font scaling

I notice the fonts on the main "C:\" screen look great on plain vanilla Dosbox, but not so much with SVN Daum (1/27/2014 release). Parts of letters are too thick. Changing the scaler and resolution in the config file don't seem to help. Are there other settings I should try modifying?

Re: Windows 3.1 display colours

Hmm, this is strange. I use openglnb (ddraw has trouble switching between modes on my Intel HD 530 graphics) and I am able to run Win 3.1 in 16.7M colors. So it must be something else. Maybe the S3 driver version? I have to use 1.41 because I can't get Paintbrush to work on later versions. Edit: …

"Selective" sound choppiness

I have a Celeron N2840 notebook that has sound issues on certain applications. I notice if I run Windows 3.1 or El-Fish, if I have the cycles set higher than 20000, the sound will be choppy. But I have no sound problems with Doom or Descent. What could be causing the selective choppiness? I've tried …

"Nasty cycles bug with recent Intel processors"

Just noticed this alarming line about Dosbox 0.74 in this thread: https://pcem-emulator.co.uk/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?t=665 Per user leilei: "dosbox 0.74 does have a nasty cycles bug with recent intel processors" I've tried to search for info on this but couldn't find any. Is anyone aware of what …

Re: Dosbox troubles in Linux Mint 18.1

Well, Wesnoth appears to work, so not everything bombs out. Thanks for the tip on using Wine, I've been going with that. But even with all the various combinations (overlay/opengl, trying various full resolutions, virtual desktop, etc) I cannot get fullscreen to work. It either encounters a "serious …

Dosbox troubles in Linux Mint 18.1

What could be causing Dosbox to constantly shut down under Linux Mint 18.1? I have tried numerous settings including the stock ones (output=surface, etc) and cannot get it to work. Here are some examples that instantly cause crashes: 1) Running Quake and then trying to adjust brightness using the …

Midi slowness in Win 3.1

I'm trying to get Windows 3.1 to run smoothly in Dosbox (success = being able to play MIDI files and edit text files simultaneously within 3.1) and have been having hit or miss results on various machines. Ideally I'd like for it to work at my default setting of 25000 cycles, as I have some apps …
