Found a boxed copy of Starcraft at goodwill for $7, CD label says its version 1.05b. It came with manual and some other stuff still in the box.

I finally completed everything in this release. I think if I ever return I'd probably just do the main game and call of the machine. The Nintendo 64 version included wasn't bad, but it's not the real Quake 2.

Made a fresh Windows 98SE install and got the nvidia 45.23 driver from the driver library installed along with the sound card drivers. With the "hard drive"being a cf card, copying the win98 setup files and drivers was easy.

I attempted and failed to install a socket a cooler. no matter what I can only get one side latched.I have the heatsink facing the right direction. This was the one I bought: https://www.ebay.com/itm/234811713962

Recently ordered a Cooler master cooler for my socket a system. the listing didn't specify the model, but it has the wide latches I need (since the middle latch on my board snapped off).

I am a bit curious about this, couldn't you in theory use the onboard sata controller in "IDE mode". I would think that would still be an option as even OEMs sometimes will offer FreeDOS as an OS option for Linux (or *BSD) users who don't want to pay for a Windows license. Did a quick test earlier on a c2d dell. I booted dos 6.22, loaded everything up, and did a quick test with Ultimate Doom. I was able to get sound effects and music working

pulled out the SFF c2d dell machine, replaced the CMOS battery, and got Lubuntu 22.04.1 LTS installed. I think the only game I really got good at is the first Doom game, except for Thy Flesh consumed. I can play the first 3 episodes fine on Ultra Violence, but Thy Flesh Consumed really is a pain.

I've been playing the first Dishonored game. I wouldn't say I'm any good at it, but I've managed to get quite far in the game. Runs quite nicely under proton, but then again it's not too demanding.
