Back in the day, fastest I got working was 40/3 after swapping cards around... but soundcards tend not to like being over 10Mhz in general... I had one system running at 12Mhz with sound. It was hard to go faster than 40/3 because it was a 2.5Mhz jump to the next speeds, which didn't help you weed …

I think your problem is 80ns RAM on the CL vs 70ns on the Trident. On VLB the CLs usually came with at least 70, the good ones were 60. edit: Actually that's better speed RAM than I've seen on most Tridents too, seen 100ns even. 80 common.

Can't remember exact drive models now, but there was quite a difference between a Seagate and Quantum I had, think they were around 120 to 150MB models, maybe a medallist and a prodrive... The Seagate would do a fairly quiet and low brrrrrp which you could easily miss if you weren't listening for it …

Yeahhhh, I don't have any ideas on what your driver has done to screw it up sorry... I'm thinking that the board is mapping the SB or GPU to the top of physical installed RAM which is an area you've forbidden windows from, so it can't see them???

Heh, I had an NF2 that was fussy, an NF3 that was fussier, and a 760i that was extremely fussy, 780i must be like "Foolish mortals, no RAM made on this plane shall work with ME, muhuahahahaaaa." then you have to go looking for mithril plated, unicorn hide stuff.

I know 7 runs way better on 1GB than Vista does, but you still want another half to 1 if you want to do anything much.
