Can't See D: Drive in Win 98 MS-DOS Mode

Hello All, Hoping this is something silly, but I haven't been able to figure it out. I have two FAT32 partitions. If I reboot to MS-DOS mode and try to access drive D:, I get "invalid drive specification". My CD-ROM drive is being assigned letter E: successfully and the drive D: is listed in fdisk's …

Re: Can't get sound out of CT3670

Not sure that I follow. I use Windows Me on the computer I have this card installed and I was able to install the drivers from Creative's site and load sound fonts using the AWE Control Panel. I dual boot and also have Windows 3.1, but haven't tried sound font loading there.

Re: Can't get sound out of CT3670

Related question: Would there be a reason to re-flash a working CT3670 to an AWE64? I'm assuming this would allow enable the extra 32 software synth channels in Windows. That isn't really important to me, but is there anything else I'm missing out on?

Re: Is SB Vibra16s good enough ?

The point of my response is to just try the card and if you like it, great. Hear, hear! I've messed with a lot of sound cards and I've only come across a couple that I thought were horrible enough that they weren't at least workable. Think about what capabilities you want for the computer you are …

Re: Via C3 Ezra Slot 1 Machine

OK, I think I have all the kinks ironed out and I'm fairly happy with this setup. The Soundscape Opus works a lot better than the original S2000 in this machine. My theory would be because it is a slightly newer, fully PnP card. The patch set isn't as good, but it still sounds better than the AWE in …

SoundBlaster 32 CT3670 + Ensoniq SoundScape Opus

Has anyone got these two cards to coexist in a DOS 6.2 machine with a PnP BIOS? There is some sort of resource conflict here that I can't pin down. I would like to have them both installed so that I can use the Soundscape to drive my MT-32 and have another General MIDI option without the problematic …

Re: Via C3 Ezra Slot 1 Machine

I swapped out the motherboard with another GA-6BXC Rev 2.0 and we are back in business. I got a couple of successful passes with Memtest 86 @ 133mhz and the machine hasn't done anything "weird" again so far like files randomly disappearing. Hopefully the stability problems are fixed now. I am still …

Re: Via C3 Ezra Slot 1 Machine

I find it quite puzzling that you managed to brick the BIOS with a PnP utility? Sounds more like there are other issues with the board. The original assumption that I made was that the Intel PnP Utility corrupted the BIOS while it was updating the ESCD. I suppose that given a couple of the other …

Re: Via C3 Ezra Slot 1 Machine

Apparently the Ezra core is half as fast when it comes to anything FPU related? Yes. The synthetic benchmarks that I have run put an Ezra running at 1 Ghz in the ballpark of roughly a P3 500 for integer performance and a Pentium 266 for floating point. The FPU is pretty sad, but it still seems to …

Re: Via C3 Ezra Slot 1 Machine

Sorry, it has been a while since my last update. I have been having some issues with this thing. Long story short: The BIOS on my GA-6BXC is bricked and I either need to reprogram it our get a new motherboard. I was trying to use the Intel PnP Utility to reassign resources for the Waverider Pro PnP …

Re: Via C3 Ezra Slot 1 Machine

A couple of updates: -I am experimenting with different sound cards in this machine. I can't get the Soundscape to "play nice" no matter what I do. SSINIT hangs when trying to initialize the card about half the time and there is no pattern to it. I decided to put it back in my DX4 100 where it works …

Re: Via C3 Ezra Slot 1 Machine

Multi is much more important. 133x1.5x should be 200mhz. :) very dosfriendly! The ability to adjust the FSB speed on the fly is more important than you would think once you start playing around with disabling the CPU caches. This makes the system speed almost entirely dependent on the RAM / FSB. 3 …

Re: Via C3 Ezra Slot 1 Machine

Is the MULTI also changeable via Software? The Partition-sheme can be done different. Yep. The software to change it on the fly is called SetMul (https://www.vogons.org/viewtopic.php?t=38613). I will read more about XFDISK later. This is just something I got to work given the tools I already know ( …

Re: Via C3 Ezra Slot 1 Machine

Hey congrats on your system, Tenorman. Glad to see it worked out and you were able to secure a 6BXC. If you want to upgrade your chip there are some 1.0ghz Ezra-Ts out there for sale last I checked, for pretty cheap, too. Matze79, can you elaborate on Slackware? I'm not familiar. Thank you. Any …

Via C3 Ezra Slot 1 Machine

I first learned about this idea when I asked about "Motherboard / CPU Combo With Most Speed Options" (https://www.vogons.org/viewtopic.php?f=46&t=62836). After getting an answer, I started researching and working on this box. It's kind of a weird one, and that's intentional. -Via C3 Ezra 866 - …
