Re: Tandy 1000 TL/2 + Upgrades

You don't need to pad the ROM unless you are using EMS (or have something else that needs to be at D000h). My XTCF card will boot the TL/2 just fine at D000h. The problem is if you want to add a Lo-Tech EMS card, you need 64K of contiguous memory and D000 is really the only option for that given the …

Re: Tandy 1000 TL/2 + Upgrades

I tried out the Tandy 640x200 16 color driver for SCI 1 this morning using the LSL1 VGA remake. The result looks pretty nice, though as I expected this game is more or less unplayable on an 8 mhz 286. The fastest machines with this video mode would only be 10 mhz, so I doubt they would fair much …

Re: Tandy 1000 TL/2 + Upgrades

There is an unofficial Tandy high-res driver for SCI1 VGA games, though: http://www.vcfed.org/forum/showthread.php?30424-Tandy-(1000)-Video-II-Mode-E-640x200x16&p=279300#post279300 I did run across that. I might try it out sometime, but I think playing these games on an 8 Mhz 286 might be pretty …

Re: Tandy 1000 TL/2 + Upgrades

Another Windows screenshot that illustrates probably the biggest problem with running Windows using the Tandy or CGA video modes - lack of vertical resolution. If I really wanted to run Windows on this computer, the built in video can also do Hercules and that would be a much better experience. I'm …

Tandy 1000 TL/2 + Upgrades

Hello All, I recently bought a Tandy 1000 TL/2. The machine came pretty standard (8 MHZ 286, 640K, single 720K floppy drive) with the exception of the hard drive having been disconnected and replaced with an XTCF card. Not being able to leave anything alone, I quickly set to messing with it after …

Re: DOS drivers for ESS688?

This is in a laptop, so there are no jumpers for me to change. I tried adding SET BLASTER to AUTOEXEC.BAT previously, and nothing would come up on boot, probably because it lacked the files necessary to use the SET BLASTER command. I'm not sure what model of laptop you are using, but I have a …

Re: Via C3 Ezra Slot 1 Machine

Agreed that this is odd. Maybe I will try manually configuring it sometime and see what happens. Either that or reloading the defaults. It seems to work though so I'm not too worried about it. I will double-check that we are using the same version of SpeedSys later. I am running it in MS-DOS mode, …

Re: Via C3 Ezra Slot 1 Machine

I am using the Powerleap BIOS from the driver pack on Vogons Drivers: 5)powleap.bin Source: PowerLeap Tualatin CPU adapter, by esupport.com 'the BIOS experts' Package: Powerleap_mr_6bxc_beta It looks like you are using the same one, judging from the date and "Award v6.00PG". Using only L1D+BPD, I …

Re: Via C3 Ezra Slot 1 Machine

I did that. Was you score even lower? 7.9x was the lowest I could get without using any throttling or using BIOS settings. You win. I get 8.37 running at 50 * 3 with BPD, ICD, L1D, and L2D. I could go in the BIOS and start messing with things like RAM timings, but it probably isn't worth the effort …

Re: Strange Ensoniq Soundscape S3016-ODIE-A

Tenorman or someone else with an ISA SoundScape installed; It would be nice if you could try Doom MBF 2.04 in my signature. Configured for SoundScape. I have no information whether or not the Allegro SoundScape Driver works properly. It is the only card I cannot test myself. (It should be similar …

Re: Strange Ensoniq Soundscape S3016-ODIE-A

This is a neat find. Thanks for sharing. IIRC the Opus cards operate at a different port address that breaks some games' native Soundscape support if you can't reconfigure the address they look for. Instead of 534h they use something else. Maybe that one above does too. I don't remember if this …

Re: Via C3 Ezra Slot 1 Machine

I tried the manual setting for 1.35 volts and got the same result as always when using 133 FSB: 3DMark 2000 will crash sometime during the first test (helicopter) and 99 will crash during the second test (FPS). I have not verified the voltage with a multimeter. I also upgraded the video card to a " …
