When I first got my TL/2, it only had 640k and it booted from D000 just fine. One idea: Have you tried a different CF card? XT IDE cards can be pretty picky about them. I never had the same problem you had, but I had to try a few, I had cards that wouldn't be recognized at all, or would only …

Doesn’t Tandy 1000 TL have DOS in ROM? If so, it may conflict with XT-IDE ROM. Run setup utility and ensure primary startup device is set to DISK. You can't disable the built in DOS in ROM. If you use a higher DOS version, the D: drive where you would usually access it is gone, but it is still …

You don't need to pad the ROM unless you are using EMS (or have something else that needs to be at D000h). My XTCF card will boot the TL/2 just fine at D000h. The problem is if you want to add a Lo-Tech EMS card, you need 64K of contiguous memory and D000 is really the only option for that given the …

I tried out the Tandy 640x200 16 color driver for SCI 1 this morning using the LSL1 VGA remake. The result looks pretty nice, though as I expected this game is more or less unplayable on an 8 mhz 286. The fastest machines with this video mode would only be 10 mhz, so I doubt they would fair much …

I did that. Was you score even lower? 7.9x was the lowest I could get without using any throttling or using BIOS settings. You win. I get 8.37 running at 50 * 3 with BPD, ICD, L1D, and L2D. I could go in the BIOS and start messing with things like RAM timings, but it probably isn't worth the effort …

Any of them will work. I'd agree that a 386 would be under-powered to worry about 16-bit sound, so maybe not bother with the PAS16 or SB16. The JAZZ 16 and ESS 688 are 16-bit, but only when used in Windows with their native drivers. In DOS they are just SB Pro clones.
