YMF71x goes to 1MHz on SBpro if the DMA can keep up lol. Real Sound blasters have the sample rate wrap back once 45KHz is reached, the next step won't produce a higher but a lower rate instead while Yamaha goes up to the maximum possible. I can do 500KHz on Intel 420EX board but sound is jittery …

It should be SIL164CTG64, or at least that is what is normally used as the DVI transmitter on old cards, but you can see there's also direct connectivity option which should be explored first. I don't know what it would take to actually enable the DVI port, I'm sure it will not just magically start …

This is a physical fault in the LCD, and is unfixable. There most probably was some pressure applied in that spot at some point, and it will likely keep on getting worse too.

I imagine that particular card is not exactly common and probably on the expensive side too, but yes, a relay can bypass this problem and shouldn't introduce new ones if it is a sealed type.

Yeah, it does. It lowers the impedance from something like 100ohm back to very close to 75ohm which should fix all the ringing and reflections related problems.

SBs use software based UART, which is source of all its limitations and bugs. Everyone else has a proper hardware UART without any such problems.

Yeah, it pretty much is. There's no more brightness drop and all the resolutions I tried looked proper again. LIke mentioned before it would be nice to see some comparison with a capture card but I lack such fancy toys.

It looks like someone connected memory expansion wrong and that caused a short and burned the trace out. Luckily the fix of repairing the trace with a wire should be enough to make things work properly again.

Removal of the IO space access is supposed to enter into PCI-E specs sooner or later. With the existing stuff it should be certainly possible. FPGA necessary for it could also emulate the OPL chip for least high cost 🤣. PCI-E hardware is in my todo list but a lot more will come first...

The chip has I2S input and output, you could simply drop the shitty codec chips and use modern DAC and ADC instead (lacking mixer though). There's probably some driver change needed to achieve it though...

Only OPL2/3 is sort of difficult to program compared to the others, due to sheer amount of registers to write to, but stuff like SB/pro/16 and WSS are very easy, as is MPU401/MIDI. There's little reason not to support all these.
