My opinion is that it is coming from the power supply. If each card does the same, the problem is not with the cards, but with the computer. Could also be a conflict with a shared address with the system - (try different settings on the sound blaster and see if it makes any difference).

yes there is a difference. a big one. different generations of hardware.

You are better with an MT-32 instead of none. Just get one and play with it. People recommend the old one as a standard. Just a personal opinion - when you deal with sound, there is no perfect choice.
