Re: AMD Athlon Thunderbird build

I just installed a PC speaker piezo unit since the case has no full PC speaker nor a place to put one. It's a pretty pitiful beep but it's the only beep I'm going to get. Speaking of stuff that plugs into the front panel, my case has a single pin PWR LED cable but the motherboard header has three …

Re: GeForce FX 5900 dead?

Well it starts to the command prompt, though I forgot to take out two of the memory modules so Windows says it has "insufficient memory to initialize Windows" because it goes over 512MB. Whatever, it boots, there's a working filesystem, now to adjust the partitions in GPartEd and after that it's XP …

Re: GeForce FX 5900 dead?

The 5900 appears to be working now with those two cards removed and the CMOS flushed, but Windows XP now really doesn't want to install. It refused to install several times on the CF card, then finally did after deleting and recreating the MBR for the card in GPartEd, but only booted once, told me …

Re: GeForce FX 5900 dead?

As people who saw my build thread may have read, I'm having problems with the nVidia GeForce FX 5900 I selected for this build. The first time I had failed to recognize the Molex connector in the back, so of course it didn't work. So today I opened it back up, added a Molex extension cable to reach …

Re: AMD Athlon Thunderbird build

Really nice machine, but the PSU is no no no, better try to find old one, as this does not fit at all on the theme of the parts and time... For example look on old HP, Compaq workstations they have Delta PSU on them, that are more then well made... The very last piece of vintage computing equipment …

Re: Post pics of your CRT monitors

I should buy a real camera; a phone is hopeless at photographing a CRT head-on: https://i.imgur.com/m2zccsTh.jpg Sun GDM-51010PT 21" Trinitron. It's absolutely magnificent at 1600x1200. It is an NOS unit that shipped in its original sealed box and cost me $200 + $100 shipping on eBay; god only knows …
