I got sorted, gsetup.exe let me setup the bios. Machine is now booting correctly.

Seems as if that was the problem. I dug my way into the dallas chip, wired up a new battery and away it went. HDD detected and the system booted.

I'm about ready to give up. I think last ditch effort would be a complete reflow but I'd say that's unlikely to fix anything. The faulty presumably lies in the chip set and as such I think the only thing left for this board is to pick its space on my graveyard wall.

Tested with the diagnostic card. All power leds are lit OK the reset lights for a split second so that's working then it just sits with the clk and frame leds lit. No post codes. Not sure what frame means but seems to me as if the system is booting it's just not reading code from the bios. Tried the …

Tired removing the sound blaster along with all mention of it in autoexec.bat and config.sys, no difference. Both Second Reality and Unreal demos don't work with the Gravis. Worth noting that Duke 3D also won't produce any sounds from it. Everything else works fine and I can't see any conflicts.

IRQ7 is free. I've run multiple other demos with the GUS without issue. I might pull the sound blaster card just on the off chance its only seeing that.
