I second what leileilol said. In addition to that, any software using the DOS/4GW extender doesn't support IRQs higher than 7, it isn't just limited to the DMX sound library.

I didn't have problems burning BIN/CUE images with ImgBurn. Do you have an audio cable connected between the IDE CD drive and sound card? That's the only way to get CD audio working with DOS applications.

There are other late DOS games with 16-bit mixing output that doesn't support WSS besides the Crusader series. Some examples: DOS Quake and Build-based games like Duke Nukem 3D.

The most affordable one would be GeForce4 Ti 4200 + Glide wrapper. Windows games using Glide API thru the wrapper won't look the same as what you get with a real 3dfx hardware, but it will work. Yeah, the AWE64 was an improvement overall aside from the CQM FM synth. That bug on SB16 and AWE32 variants didn't kill them because at the height of their popularity, people played DOS games that used auto-init DMA, which didn't suffer from clicking noises.

There isn't a way to fix the single-cycle DMA clicking bug on these sound cards, unfortunately. Some of the variants are much worse, where samples tend to drop out on several occasions. If SB16 and AWE support is wanted, consider adding a secondary ISA sound card as a workaround.
