If setupds /s could see DMA set to 1 and dsdma could also load and only crash when games run, I would suspect ems might be the culprit. Try moving emm386's page frame to D000 from E000.

Just a thought, have you ever run memtest86 to make sure the rams are ok? Cos it could just be ram issues.

That's very strange... I'm scratching my head. Could it because you're using himemx/jemm386? I use only himem + emm386, sometimes jemmex alone. Unfortunately I do not have any mobo with ICH on hand to test it out. There is a YMF744 guide thread that you could further seek help from though.

You need to use the original setupds.exe instead of the modded ones (setupds1..5). This is because setupds checks the south bridge to determine what it needs to do. Ok it sounds like DDMA is not working. You can change back DMAMODE=3 (or better to copy the ds.ini from the zip file if you've let setupds modify ds.ini), then run setupds /s, and load dsdma. I think it should be alright. Btw you don't need ymfirq in autoexec.bat, as the PCI slot is already …

I just checked the technical reference manual of your system again. The south bridge is 82801AA which is ICH instead of ICH2, so you'll need to use the original setupds.exe instead of setupds1.exe. You could but I don't think that is necessary now that we have the schematic. Card manufacturers usually just follow the reference design from the datasheet. Other components on your card match those in the datasheet so it is quite certain that they just copy the reference design.

For i815 chipper, your south bridge should be ICH2, but could you confirm by looking at your motherboard or show us a picture of it? Also please show us a screenshot of setupds /s after booting up.

I'd measure it's Vcc pins for 5v with power on rather than just measuring resistance. Resistance will show up via the internal of the chip and external components connected which doesn't mean anything.
