You need the 32 bit TCP/IP stack for Windows 3.11. Also what I did in my network was installing a raspberry pi (can be any Linux machine really) with samba installed, because modern windows don't use the exact same protocol. In late 90's laptops, the ones with the best PCM output have been the ones with Crystal chips. PCM/WAVE output on Crystal chips is excellent in my experience.
