Re: Starcraft MIDI files?

Haha... well, yeah, that's about what I expected. :-) So there probably wasn't ever a "MIDI version" per se, but probably session files in whatever DAW they were using at the time. It would have to be set up with all the same hardware. I could almost do this... I have SC, JV, and Kurzweil synths, …

Re: Starcraft MIDI files?

I could see if there is a midi verison. In the meantime... From Glenn Stafford: "The first round of SC1 Terran music was done with mostly Roland JV-1080 as well as SC-55/88 and Super Jupiter layered in. A little later for some of the Protoss and Cinematic music, and for the Brood War Expansion: …

Re: Warcraft II Music Soundcard

I do also want to confirm that "Greg Alper" did ALL of the music for Warcraft 1. Glenn Stafford simply configured it for all available soundcards and did some mixing levels to compensate for that. However, Glenn Stafford did ALL the music for Warcraft 2.

Re: Warcraft II Music Soundcard

Update on this. For Warcraft II -- from Glenn Stafford "The original equipment used to record the Warcraft II music was a Roland SC-55 layered with a Roland SC-88. I recall only certain sounds were doubled with SC-88 but not all. French Horns were doubled, and... probably some of the woodwinds too, …

Re: Xeen and Roland synths

Some updates: --Tim Tully (with his friends) is the primary composer for MM3~5 and Planet's Edge. (see below for what equipment he used) --George Sanger did ONLY the introduction theme for MM3 and Planet's Edge. --Rob Wallace maybe did one track for MM3 and 50% of the tracks for Planet's Edge (music …

Re: Sound Blaster Pro 1.0 vs. 2.0

There must be some difference though... If I select the "Sound Blaster" option, the audio is mono. (Using any card on DOSBox, and using my real SB16 OPL3 card.) If I select the "Sound Blaster Pro" option (no matter what card in DOSBox), the audio is stereo, yet there are definitely instruments …

Re: Sound Blaster Pro 1.0 vs. 2.0

What game it is? Might and Magic IV/V I have SB16, but support for that is an afterthought as SB16 uses regular "SB" mode for music. (If you play the original demo, there's a note right at the beginning stating that the demo does not support OPL3 at all. And half of the music files from the demo go …

Re: Sound Blaster Pro 1.0 vs. 2.0

This isn't hard, just play with DosBox, switching its sound engine between 'sb2' (single OPL2), 'sbpro1' (dual OPL2) and 'sbpro2' (OPL3) should show you the difference for any songs you want. I did some testing with this, and I'm not convinced that DOSBox accurately emulates these cards. I tried …

Re: Sound Blaster Pro 1.0 vs. 2.0

So to summarize this regarding the Sound Blaster Pro: A "Sound Blaster Pro 1.0 - Dual OPL2" will correctly play "single OPL2" but not single "SBPro2 OPL3"? A "Sound Blaster Pro 2.0 - OPL3" will correctly play "single OPL2" but not "Sound Blaster Pro 1.0 Dual OPL2"? Thanks, Andrew

Sound Blaster Pro 1.0 vs. 2.0

I found a few topics on here, but I didn't come across anything specific (I may have missed it though). SB Pro 1.0 uses two OPL2 chips, and 2.0 uses one OPL3 chip. Some websites I have found claim that this causes no difference in the sound. Does it really? OPL2 and OPL3 seem to be different chips …
