IBM Blue Lightning 486slc3 is really the only viable option here. Still would need an adapter and a rare Japanese upgrade to get one.

I could swear my 5x86 had DMA & EIDE support (pio4) When did udma/ ATA33 come out? I would think a PCI equipped 486 could run a UDMA disk controller I would HOPE a VLB could as well but it was too early

If your using the included version of dos with Windows 95 you don’t need a partician or anything to boot to dos, just keep it all together

As dumb as this may sound check the edge connector for coorsion/wear/etc and clean I’ve encountered a few dirty cards that came from very questionable storage

From what I remember the original Cyrix chips had a 1x multiplier, that may not seem like much but I had a stack of pc100 motherboards back in the day. A p120+ gets a bit lively on a 100mhz FSB Not historically accurate but some of the old SIS motherboards would overclock to 90mhz All this said FSB …

Later Pmmx chips were multiplier locked. Your PCI bus overclocking at 41mgz might be causing more trouble along with not upping the voltage. Past experience is that the P200mmx does not over clock well, even after upping the voltage. Best performance for me was 100mhz x 2x for 200mhz on a pc100 …

With a wait state you should be able to clock to the full 16mhz with stock memory, sound card may not work though . If you cannot add a wait state you will need faster memory and likely can’t exceed 12.5 MHz.

Pcchips m571 has both synch and asynch I always rAn overclocked pci 83mhz FSB, good speed bump with decent pc100 sdram. Too bad I had to run an old bios to fit 256mb of sdram though.

Overclocking the ISA bus isn’t very problematic with most VGA cards But the hard drive/controller may flake out, especially if it’s scsi. 1. No idea, depends on the speed rating of the motherboard components 2. Depends on how it’s controlled but the 16 bit slots are likely synchronized to the cpu 3. I often wondered why the hybrid VGA/EGA/CGA adapters didn’t just use flicker techniques so you could display a psuido “VGA” on cga/ega. I had a CGA screen attached to such a card once and while better, it still could flake out.
