You could pick up an IDE DOM. I haven’t tried those myself yet, but I know some people have had good luck.

IMHO, that reads more like "we don't support it and don't care if it doesn't work ( likely because it is not being tested anymore)" rather than "we are explicitly and intentionally preventing it from working". I’ve found some modern SSDs have started dropping support for SATA I, and all the adapters I’ve come across only speak SATA I.

I'm not exactly sure whether it is in scope for this or not, but I've got an MT-80s I'm happy to record from. It's not "Sound Canvas" branded, but it does claim to have GS support, and I see at least one other MT device in this thread already.

Did you check in the BIOS? You can often disable the two channels independently in there.

Unless I’m mistaken, that looks like it has the Socket 7 pin on it though? So wouldn’t I still need some sort of adapter, even if I don’t need the voltage conversion?

I don’t wanna burn out vintage chips, but I also don’t wanna drop a pile of money on another chip just to find out my board is apparently extremely picky. So this seems like a cheap way to learn more information.

I’m aware, but I imagine it’d survive the few minutes it would take to confirm my board seemed to be compatible at all before I dropped the money on an Overdrive or Spectra or something.

Okay, I unplugged the CF card I was using as a main drive and let it use whatever other disk is in there, and now setup seems to work correctly? Removing unneeded cards made no difference with setup, and the Windows 98SE setup fails in basically the same spot: Please wait while Setup initializes. Scanning system registry... And then just hangs forever.
