That hole is connected to ground plane anyways so i think you should be fine even with solder connect to the circled part on the board. As long as the via is intact. those small point is to connect the ground plane with the inner ground plane in the circuit board yeah i wasnt sure about that either …

I think you can just made sure that the spring will press the flap to the front bezel and that should be it. When you insert the disk into the drive, the disk will keep the flap in the open position so there no complicated mechanism in there.

XP (SP2) run just fine on this board. my friend did use this board + dual 1Ghz p3 in 2005 until we graduate and it served us well the graphics card is geforce 256, it not super fast but good enough to play some light game

the cooler is not clamped down to the cpu, if we look at the picture OP post, the cooler basically just sitting on the cpu and using it own weight as the pressure on the cpu so 50*c idle is pretty decent with that kind of mounting pressure 😁
