That's good. I might look at fixing the downloads to various game sites to get images etc. It's still by far the best launcher around.

I have yet to come across a Via mobo that does not support C3 cpus, at least after a bios update. Sometimes Ezras might be detected as Samuels, but still works fine. I don't really use Nehemiahs so I can't really say, but if you have a Ezra/Samuel and a Via mobo, I would say just update the bios and …

Discovered a DPDT switch is perfect for switching two different jumpers on/off in an opposite fashion. Useful for swapping midi ports 330/300 between an AWE32 and a musicquest clone. Also discovered the round hole for an audio port in an IO shield is the perfect size to mount the power cable socket …

XP was the era when the sound card died, especially for gaming. Maybe audiophiles or home theater enthusiasts might look for something more, but who here really care about that?

The jazz16/pas16 are some of the most impressive sb16 alternatives I have come across. Although for me the ultimate dual card system is an awe32 with a musicquest clone card.

Just get a new rectifier psu with matching voltage and minimum amps...that's it. If you want to spend 4-5x as much you can find genuine Roland Boss psu but why bother?

Given that few if any games from the XP era really take advantage of multi cores - and many suffer from them - why not? Set and forget, much easier than dealing with core affinity every time you play. Games only started utilizing multi cores in the late 2000s, and it seems only really need good MT …

Managed to get the GOG version of Descent II working on a Win98 PC...with the 3dfx patch as well. Combined with a Voodoo3 and Yamaha MU1000 the result was very nice. The game is not as bad as I remembered it. About to sit down for a session of HL1 on a different Win98 PC with a Voodoo5 and MX300 …
