Re: Does PCI-Express sound card with gameport exist?

sangokushi wrote on 2020-12-03, 21:57: based on the user review, the sound card sent by Sedna doesn't have the gameport Nice catch. I've cancelled the order, and instead ordered a PCI card with gameport on ebay. My motherboard has a PCI slot on a PCI to PCIe bridge, so the final result should be …

Re: Does PCI-Express sound card with gameport exist?

holy mother of sweet god... So... hypothetically, I can install one of these cards and plug a gameport joystick to my ryzen build? :o I'm not yet sure about a joystick working, since the card I'm currently using doesn't have a gameport, but I've ordered this exact card on Newegg, so I'll see if it …

Re: Does PCI-Express sound card with gameport exist?

Interestingly, CMI8738 is a PCI bus based chip with "SBPro" compatibility. I suppose the 2nd square chip sitting right next to 8738 handles PCIE <-> PCI conversion. CMI provides Win XP, 2000, & 7 drivers, but I'm not 100% sure the card works on Windows. Indeed, this card is pretty basic - it's only …

Re: Does PCI-Express sound card with gameport exist?

I found this one: https://www.newegg.com/sedna-se-pcie-sc-06/p/2GA-0003-00001 Seems to be in stock right now. Microsoft dropped game port support in Vista. Such devices are shown in Windows 7 Device Manager as "Unsupported Standard Game Port". Yes, but, as I recently found out, you can still use it …

Re: OPL2LPT

I tried using ADLiPT TSR on my Windows 98 machine in DOS box, but it tells me that a wrong version of EMM386 is installed. But the version that comes with Windows 98 is 4.95, well above the required 4.46. What am I doing wrong?

Re: PCie-to PCI, PCI to ISA, # of slots multipliers - bridges, risers, backplanes, research, especially for DOS, WIP.

Its 99% chance that you know it but to be sure.. compatibility mode.. for make DMA working to get more than 2 MB/s you have to go into device manager select disk device and check DMA checkbox and reboot. Yeah, this was one of the first things I tried, but, interestingly, there was no DMA checkbox. …

Re: PCie-to PCI, PCI to ISA, # of slots multipliers - bridges, risers, backplanes, research, especially for DOS, WIP.

Well, did you / can you try some YMF724/744 or Vortex 1 PCI card? There is a chance that SFX may work. I have CMI8738 too and didn't have much success in my P67 board but YMF/Vortex works well (SFX too) for me. I tried out a Vortex 1 card a few months ago, and, unfortunately, no luck - the DOS …

Re: PCie-to PCI, PCI to ISA, # of slots multipliers - bridges, risers, backplanes, research, especially for DOS, WIP.

Regarding of you problems.. you didnt wrote with which OSes you had these problem, if you made Win98 working on Z370 - good job.. i though about it but because Gen 1 videocards not worked i gave up.. Geforce 6200 working fine with Win98. What USB 2.0 controler and IDE controller is working for you? …

Re: PCie-to PCI, PCI to ISA, # of slots multipliers - bridges, risers, backplanes, research, especially for DOS, WIP.

Which MB you have exactly? Gigabyte Z370 HD3P. Its PCI slot is bridged via ITE8892 chip. There's also another thing about it - when I was building my multiboot rig, I was experimenting with all kinds of different cards. And, originally, I wanted to use a PCI video card - the video card that I use …

Re: PCie-to PCI, PCI to ISA, # of slots multipliers - bridges, risers, backplanes, research, especially for DOS, WIP.

Are you talking about DOS games run under Win98 DOS window or true DOS mode? Adlib and MIDI would work - it's only I/O acces, no IRQ/DMA involved. But SFX doesn't work I expect... I'm talking about true DOS mode. And it's not just games - I was able to run LLSID and listen to some .sid tunes, …

Re: PCie-to PCI, PCI to ISA, # of slots multipliers - bridges, risers, backplanes, research, especially for DOS, WIP.

I found out that Gigabyte is still making some MB with PCI slot, at least few Z270 and 1 Z370 MB, i added them to first post. I use this MB in my main rig, and I had success using a PCI CMI8738-based sound card with it. I have both Windows 7 and Windows 98SE installed on my PC, the card works fine …

Re: Has Anyone Ever Seen/Heard of a DigiSpeech Plus?

I think their through process regarding AC adapter is "If you have a laptop, the last thing you want to need to do is plug something in that will prevent mobility". That seems to be the case... But the thing is, you'll still need to plug in speakers somewhere too. From the one picture of it that …
