Re: X58/i865/V880 - Yamaha7x4/AureaV1/2 pure Dos7.1- compatibility list/research/ ultim. drivers configs, WIP- gurus ne

Does your BIOS have some option like memory remapping? Ah, very interesting. Thank you. My Evga board is missing this option. Perhaps future Vogons readers can fully appreciate this advise :) I've moved on to another area of interest however: I find out other pro thing, you can disable whole PCI-E …

Re: X58/i865/V880 - Yamaha7x4/AureaV1/2 pure Dos7.1- compatibility list/research/ ultim. drivers configs, WIP- gurus ne

Yes thank you. I have reviewed this blog before but nothing helpful stood out. Considering the amount of detail in it, can you be specific about which method you're referring to? If "MTRRLFBE.EXE LFB WC" as a solution - I tried this but it had no effect. If system.ini changes to limit Windows 98's " …

Re: X58/i865/V880 - Yamaha7x4/AureaV1/2 pure Dos7.1- compatibility list/research/ ultim. drivers configs, WIP- gurus ne

Absolutely ruthan, the performance is still acceptable. It became more about understanding why the two platforms were behaving differently despite identical accessories and software. As a final follow-up to this curiosity - It turns out I experienced the same bottleneck to performance on both my X58 …

Re: X58/i865/V880 - Yamaha7x4/AureaV1/2 pure Dos7.1- compatibility list/research/ ultim. drivers configs, WIP- gurus ne

Thanks for all the encouraging suggestions Thanks also for the info regarding disabling PCIe devices at the OS level. I incorrectly assumed multiple GPUs in newer OS's posed a problem for builds of this type and considered a hardware solution an advantage. I suppose it's actually the opposite! :) …

Re: X58/i865/V880 - Yamaha7x4/AureaV1/2 pure Dos7.1- compatibility list/research/ ultim. drivers configs, WIP- gurus ne

Great read ruthan. I'm building a similar rig using the Evga x58 3x SLI Classified. One added advantage to this board are hardware jumpers to disable PCIe lanes. In the end hope to mount an external switch to select which GPU is active depending on the OS I intend to boot. In any case, I've hit a …

Expendable timedemo with newer CPUs by way of a modded exe

in Windows
Expendable (1999) includes a pretty informative benchmark by including the "-timedemo" input parameter on go.exe. This benchmark can be thwarted by a CPU check however that fails with newer processors like the Core 2. For normal play, this check can be bypassed with the parameter "-nocputest". …

Re: 9800 pro issues with Quake 2 OpenGL

I had the same issue recently with an R300 card and the 6.2 Catalyst drivers. For me, I had to define a monitor. With a DVI connection, the default "Plug and Play" specification wasn't negotiating available resolutions to the OpenGL driver and/or Quake engine. Oddly, other OpenGL and all Direct3D …

Re: Expendable timedemo with Core 2 Duo

in Windows
I got the benchmark working with a simple hex edit - changed the two parameters' names to same, then gave the game that parameter and now it runs the benchmark with nocputest. I use HxD myself but I didn't discover a way to accomplish this. Care to share your method? Even better, can you just share …
