Re: Aureal Vortex vs Vortex 2

Yeah things have gone nuts really fast, mostly due to all the YT hype etc. While these cards are certainly less common, I wouldn't say rare. The demand is very high and Resellers are waiting for them to peak before letting them go.

Re: Win98 "graphics bus failure"

This issue isn't just limited to the K8T880. My older Gigabyte 7VAX (KT400) had the same stuff going on and it turned out to be a combination of chipset drivers, IRQ conflicts. XP really is the way to go with this hardware.

Re: Win98 "graphics bus failure"

This is most likely your problem. Try Rudolph R. Loew's patch which works exceptionally well, and see if it fixes the issue. If you get it working, you should check the performance, because there is a BIOS bug that can affect the performance of these chipsets in Win98. Something really weird …

Re: AGP for Super S7 with weak VRMS?

What's odd about the VIA chipsets is, even later ones like the 694X inherited some of these problems. Getting them to run in AGP 4x for example can be a real pain. Soundblaster Live! while it can be made to work, It will still sound better on an Intel or ALI chipset board. Clearly the VRM isn't the …

After reinstalling the chipset drivers by doing a registry restore and deleting the INF files of the previous installation, THEN installing the Catalyst 6.2 drivers, it got pretty far until it starting setting up the drivers for "Unknown Device", finished then froze with the hourglass cursor on the …

Re: AGP for Super S7 with weak VRMS?

From my testing, anything nVidia and MVP3 = problems unless using the PCI versions with self reliant VRM. Even if you make the AGP version seem stable, other things happen like distorted sound etc. The VIA latency patch is no help. With 3Dfx cards, the Banshee will definitely put less stress on the …

Re: Radeon 9700 Pro on the way out?

If you haven't already, I would clean the contacts and change the thermal paste. That would rule out the simple stuff. Also since you are using an SIS chipset, make sure there are no compatiblity issues. I've had several motherboards that will not run right with an 9700 Pro but work fine in others. …

Re: Table Fog & 8-bit Paletted Textures

Anyone know if the ATI Rage128 supports table fog? In the drivers there are options to both enable 8-bit textures as well as table fog. I also recall reading a spec sheet that claimed table fog was supported on the Rage. After enabling both FF VII and VIII look fine on my Rage128 pro but table fog …
