Re: How to run Porsche Unleashed in 1080p?

in Windows
Is the driver unable to achieve the desired result through OpenGL? I don't know about high resolutions with it as I prefer low resolutions for this game, but performance was better with it. I don't remember how to add permissions through nGlide.

Re: Older PCI gpu in newer system.

I had exactly the same idea but with Windows XP and 98. Connect both cards to one monitor. So that FX 5500 would output the image when 98 starts but 750 Ti when it comes to XP. Is this feasible? Easy. I did this and it worked. It is selected in the FX5500 BIOS as the main one (For the needs of …

Re: World Wide Web support in Win 98SE & ME in 2023

in Milliways
So, it seems to me that it is more worth warning about the virus danger to those who are going to install Windows 10 than to those who want to use 9x in 2023... When no one has been optimizing viruses for 9x for a long time, but under Windows 10 - in first of all, because this is now the main target …

Re: World Wide Web support in Win 98SE & ME in 2023

in Milliways
For educational purposes, I tried to run some of the latest high-profile viruses in a virtual machine and on Windows XP some of them still somehow worked, on Windows 7 almost everything worked, and on Windows 98 none of them (At least without KernelEx, which is disabled by default). Giving errors, …

Re: World Wide Web support in Win 98SE & ME in 2023

Good luck with the matters of security on this machine... And what, at least one modern virus will work under Windows 9x\Me? I highly doubt it. They are now written more likely under Windows 10 \ 11, well, 7 maximum, even XP is already in doubt. And in Windows 98 you will get something like "There …

Re: Windows 9X: how activate the NTFS drives?

in Windows
I'm assuming your NTFS drives are over 120GB in size? In this case, in addition to the NTFS file system driver, you will also need a patched one to support large disks, corresponding to ESDI_506.PDR (If you prefer IDE or SATA), or AHCI.PDR (It already contains a fix for large disks), if you prefer …

Re: Pny Verto fx5600 ultra 128mb ddr bios needed

Although, if you believe: http://web.archive.org/web/20100315080604/http://www.gpureview.com/geforce-fx-5600-ultra-card-146.html PNY only had a second revision (If the source is not mistaken). For accuracy, you can also check the official website. If you have exactly the second revision and you are …

Re: Pny Verto fx5600 ultra 128mb ddr bios needed

Pny Verto fx5600 ultra 128mb ddr Is this the first or second revision? The first revision had GPU\VRAM frequencies of 350\350 MHz, while the second revision had 400\400 MHz. They are initially set in vBIOS. The card must be labeled accordingly. Source: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Nvidia_ …

Re: HELP! - GeForce FX5600 in win98se

I would suggest discussing this issue in more detail (less unfounded). What specific games (give at least a few titles) do you think won't run on the GeForce FX with the faster 56.56 driver, but will run smoothly with the slower 45.23 driver? I would like to just check, test and try to find …

Re: HELP! - GeForce FX5600 in win98se

Unfortunately further testing revealed that drivers past 45.23 have bad Windows 98 games compatibility and cannot be recommended. 5x.x caused Thief 2 to crash. With 8x.x many old EA sports games crashed. For some games there may be fixes in config or patches but not a general solution. 45.23 has …

Re: HELP! - GeForce FX5600 in win98se

Also, I would like to touch upon such a parameter as "video output delay", which in NT systems we usually measure using tools such as "DPC Latency Checker" or "LatencyMon". Unfortunately, I did not find such tools for Windows 9x (If anyone here suddenly knows such tools, please let me know). …

Re: HELP! - GeForce FX5600 in win98se

To those searching for best drivers for FX5600 this may be of interest. I tested a few driver versions on my PIII 900, 440BX, Windows 98. The fastest driver is 53.04, however I cannot comment on game compatibility vs the well known 45.23. I tested drivers using 3D Mark 99, 3D Mark 2000, 3D Mark …

Re: Geforce 7 series backwards compatibility

Now, after searching, I found the RadEdit program: https://radeon.ru/bios/util/radedit/eng/ for modifying ATI vBIOS, which, starting from version 1.1, seems to allow you to set the refresh rate in DOS (Did not check): Filename RadEdit.PNG File size 16.91 KiB Views 1190 views

Re: Geforce 7 series backwards compatibility

Ok, dynamic loading is fine. And is there some tool to mod vbios refresh rate? Or did it already someone hacked manually? How the data structure in vbios looks? I've come across this method as a recommendation for video card owners from ATI (Who wanted to change 60hz on their CRT monitors). …

Re: Geforce 7 series backwards compatibility

I don't know if there is some freq. table that is used by vbios during init. But even if yes, it would not be good idea as many LCDs can't sync over 60-70Hz and you can get a WTF moment after some years you will forget that you did that mod :) It is possible to use such a modified vBIOS, at a hard- …

Re: Geforce 7 series backwards compatibility

Apparently, the 7900GS is something very special... I just checked the vBIOS data with the 7950GT (G71) and saw the same results as with the G70 yesterday! Namely, the message about 3GB, a black screen when starting games, as well as UNIRFRSH freezing when trying to autoconfigure (If you are reading …
