Re: Volkov Commander and alternatives

in DOS
@jo22: Unfortunately that card is listed as unstable on modern XT clones like mine. I have one of JD's (monotech) NuXT and a Micro8088 I built. Check the Known Issues section. I do wonder if it's a power issue and if that'd be solved by some pull-ups and lower voltage SMT IC's. Really unsure. I've …

Re: Volkov Commander and alternatives

Might do later tonight. I was thinking along those lines. Actually, it wouldn't surprise me if it's just getting a boost using BUFFERS=rah rah in CONFIG.SYS. It's difficult to find apps that have decent quality-of-life features that still work on 8088/8086 class machines which I and other friends …

Re: Volkov Commander and alternatives

I use Norton Commander 4.0 (I have originals) and Volkov Commander 4.05. The main reason I use these two versions is that they work on my 10Mhz Turbo-XT. They seem to copy files vastly quicker than MS-DOS so I suspect they're reading and buffering data in the 2mb EMS card I have. Not sure. Love both …

I'm wondering if it's a memory map difference in the PS/2 MCA systems ..or? Hmm. Still investigating. I don't do a lot of gaming unfortunately. My ' …

PC-DOS 7.10 Rev0 + QEMM9 DOSDATA.SYS Freeze

in DOS
Greetings! I'm re-doing my IBM PS/2 56SX MCA system with 8mb ram.. fun little beastie. I've got PC-DOS 7.10 rev0 running and have been fiddling with FAT32 partitions.. but I digress. I wanted to install QEMM9 so I pulled out my disks and installed. Annoyingly, when the line in my CONFIG.SYS for: …

Re: Galaxy Word Processor 3.0

Re: Galaxy Word Processor 3.0

Greetings! I gave up trying to email people that are relatives of the author. After a lot of searching it appears that he passed away sometime about a decade ago with noone to pickup the work. Family hasn't responded to several emails. It's all been radio silence. So. I managed to stumble across a …
