nice video, I like EGA aesthetics a lot. I tried running a Monkey Island VGA in EGA with the e parameter: it runs in black and white, while Fate of Atlantis runs in EGA very very slowly, taking 30 seconds to convert a frame, on a P3 450.

Going back up to the lookout, you should hear the adlib sounds / the fire cracking. Check the settings on your sound card on adlib / FM / resource conflicts on ports / irq and start the game with monkey a (or s). Make sure the card is working perfectly with other games. Also, 200 MMX may be too fast …

Interesting, I will give a try to General User SF. At a first audition, it sounds nice and balanced; I noticed that the violin sound has a well defined vibrato.

Having to use tape implies that there is no need for high performance cooling, thus good quality tape such as hpfix should be more than enough. Tape is better. Thermal glue may be more difficult to remove.

most 9700 / 9800 cards don't age gracefully. Try pushing the ram chips to check whether to pattern of artifacts changes. If yes, then the memory chips may be the culprit and you could change those.

something is very wrong here. My only two cents is to enable bios defaults, and run an extended SMART test on the HDD. Dying disks may have very slow reads / writes. with those specs, win98 should install in less than 10 minutes and performance should be stellar.

Such motherboards use jumpers, in most cases. Lowest I could go was 2 x 66, on a BX board. Few slot 1 boards go below 66 MHz FSB, perhaps some LX models. Downclocking a P2 is not great, IMHO. They can't go low enough through multi / fsb or they are too slow when disabling L1 cache. I have two of …
