Effectively no compiler actually includes options for SSE4a optimizations because of how small of an improvement it would make. Compare the number of added instructions for SSE4.1 vs SSE4a. These drives are fine for anything older than 98-era. Small, quiet, modern replacements for fat failing hard drives. They also don't involve finding a PCI SATA adapter, which costs a lot on its own.

I'm thinking LGA 775: started with slow Prescott P4's and ended with significantly faster Core 2 Quad 9xxx. If you're looking for single core power, the Wolfdale E8600 is faster than the Core 2 Quads, and still much faster than single threaded performance of Prescotts.

These numbers are from memory, but I think it's correct: AMD's datasheet lists 3 low voltage versions of the K6-3+ 400MHz 1.6V 450MHz 1.7V 500MHz 1.8V The faster parts from that list were guaranteed to also run at the lower speed/voltage settings. The chips look fake, with the usual very bright text and sanded texture that redone tops usually have. I'd return for a refund and a bad feedback if you can't get these working.

Yeah the TVM version looked like a hot pile of trash. I did look for MSI boards with this same chipset, but didn't find many for a reasonable price. None of them supported SATA2 either (not like that's gonna matter in 98 but in XP and later it helps)
