OS/2, what is "not that fast" enough...

I heard OS/2, early versions, have problems booting and installing with a " fast" CPU (anything beyond 386 or 486 won't work, without modifying the binary). I was wondering, what does "fast" mean here? I mean, there are 100MHz 486 CPU's, is that "too fast" for OS/2 1.1? I would love to know a little …

Re: Testing an AT PSU?

I think I will return the PSU, I noticed that when I connect the PSU to the power and press the power switch, the fan doesn't spin... And if my memory doesn't fail (it has been ages since I had to deal with old hardware) that is not a good sign :( I share a picture of the inner of the PSU just in …

Testing an AT PSU?

I recently got a cheap AT PSU for my old mobos, one of my motherboards, the GA-6BA, supports both ATX and AT PSU so I decided to try and connect it. If I remember correctly, the P8/P9 connectors have an order and the black connectors should be together in the middle (I followed this image, just in …

This is maybe a super basic question but I thought this will work: Old mobo only supports AT connectors for keyboard I only had a USB keyboard I have an AT to PS/2 converter I have a PS/2 to USB converter https://www.vogons.org/download/file.php?mode=view&id=96745 For my surprise it doesn't work... …

Re: ATI Radeon R100 and Windows 3.x/NT 3.x?

Nah @zyga64 I tried already patching the svga256 driver with vgapatch and it didn't work. I think I will have to stay with that low resolution in Windows 3.11, I really have NO idea what is happening... I am pretty sure that card is capable of supporting VESA 2.0 but for some reason I cannot find a …

Re: ATI Radeon R100 and Windows 3.x/NT 3.x?

Thanks again @matze79 but I think I gave up. I tried with SciTech drivers, 5x, 6x and 7... No luck neither. The MSDOS driver says no compatible SVGA display chip is found, when I try and run manually VBETEST in version 6.x I can see it can correctly display the color and patterns at 1024x768 and …

Re: LED Monitor for MSDOS and Windows 3.x/9x

Thanks @darry! I was thinking about an old 4:3 ViewSonic17" LCD display, with DVI/VGA output, nothing that fancy. I read a lot of threads regarding CRT monitors for C64 and similar and all of them say it has to be a special monitor but in my case it is MSDOS/Windows 3.x stuff so I don't think there …

LED Monitor for MSDOS and Windows 3.x/9x

I was wondering, is there anything that I should look for a LED monitor for a retro machine running MSDOS and Windows 3.x/9x? I am looking at a 17" inch LCD but I don't know if I have to check for specific refresh rate or V-Sync or something like that, can anyone give me a hint here? Thanks!
