Re: Technically impressive FM synth music

YU-NO was never released at IBM-PC DOS. But it was notable someone made PC-playable patch about "DK4" and "Kakyusei". Your upload is very good OPL composing compare to horrible commercial OPL3 FM synth games. In my opinion, for good OPL music, an instrument should not use just one channel of FM. So …

More OPL3 MIDI driver tests. This time with conversions from YU-NO (PC98). (what if elf ported YU-NO to non-PC98 MS-DOS with OPL3 FM years ago like with Doukyusei?) Simulating that awesome OPM/OPN/OPNA 4op bell synth sound with OPL3 2x2op (OPL3 4op 2x2 algorithm cannot do this due to lack of detune …

Modaozi (aka Prince of Evil) RIX data! https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/1287967/modaozi_at.zip (packaged as a hoot set - xml in zip, but the RIX files are probably what you want). I figured out how to extract the RIX music data while playing the game in DOSBOX and using OllyDbg to extract via …

Re: OPL3 emulator

khokh2001's core is all integer arithmetic, however it still has a few minor bugs in the emulation output (particularly for more complex/highly modulated waveforms). The core used in DOSBox is still more accurate, as far as comparing to genuine Yamaha OPL3 output goes. 😀

Re: Windows OPL3 Synthesizer

I need to work out a less hack-ish way to add periodic retrigger commands for specific patches (ie: for "Telephone" and other similar patches). Right now I've got a number of hacks to support 2op detuning between 2x2op pairs, a simple linear pitch EG, and vibrato. The biggest problem I have with …

Ys 2 Special - this is OPL2 data so in DOSBOX it is not accurate as real H/W FM. I've been wondering what the working IMS sources were like. I wrote a small tool to extract the music from the actual Ys2 Special game and it seems to use some custom format (written by sopepos apparently, BUT it's not …

Time-lapse, fast-foward to the present... Good evening my little retrosystem to play fm music open end ;-) -> Pentium-MMX / 233Mhz inside you will find my ESS Audiodrive 1869F i triad to install the OPL3 Synth Driver (HW) for true acsess with the FM Chip of my ESS Audiodrive (Es1869F) in my fresh …

I've managed to work out how to get IPC to work with a driver instance among other things. There is a lot of cleanup to be done …

Jepael wrote: Doesn't Joel's adlmidi use dbopl.c from DosBox as the OPL3 chip emulation? It does, except it uses multiple instances of the emulated core, in order to facilitate more polyphony. It's ok for that since it's not designed to push register command to a real chip for playback anyway.
