Re: Newly made PCMCIA sound card

Still waiting on breakout board for the dream.fr midi chips that I received, digikey is a little bit off these days, sometimes next day sometimes next week. Started working on the HardMPU in the mean time anyway. just quick picture of progress, I mentioned before but my Roland SCP-55 reconstructed …

Re: Newly made PCMCIA sound card

Kind of reminds me I think of maybe Compaq Presario laptops of the early 2000's that had some kind of ported woofer setup if I recall. I think we will make the card output to the internal speaker when no external headphones or speaker is attached. I suppose if the laptop is equipped with only a …

Re: *The DOS HP Palmtop discussion topic for users of HP 95LX, 100LX, 200LX and 1000CX Palmtops*

nice work on that FPS game! re: esp32, I am doing something similar. I packaged an ESP8266 into a PCMCIA card that aside from acting as a virtual modem can give access to the LAN via SLIP, I mainly use it for ipx multiplayer gaming. one of the advantages, because I am implementing my own UART I can …

we can do almost anything on the sidecar because we have no physical constraints. If you want to make my life easy use components that have symbol, footprint and 3d model in SnapEDA.com , otherwise it is no big deal but I have to make the footprints/symbols myself. if the datasheet has example/ …

Re: Newly made PCMCIA sound card

how is the sound when it plays through the computer speakers? I have brought the digital audio speaker pin out on my dev board to try it out but it is mono and i assume it sounds like crap more intended for modems? I had already been thinking about it for making fake modem sounds from my pcmcia …

Re: Newly made PCMCIA sound card

I can answer that one, it doesn't sound that bad really, it just depends on the laptop, "newer" ones use the same speakers for the integrated audio card out and the basic system speaker sounds, so it's quite good on those. On older models usually without integrated audio, the system speaker is just …

Re: Newly made PCMCIA sound card

Yes, I hope if i can show some realistic progress maybe some others will show interest in developing it. I kind of would like to have just bought one but nobody was doing it so I am trying. I purchased a bunch of those framekits from digikey actually I got a couple boxes of them for my own testing …

Re: Newly made PCMCIA sound card

I have reconstructed a roland scp-55 card information structure, sent off a prototype board to pcbway, hopefully the dream.fr and yamaha chips arrive this week and I can do some testing to see where this can go. very messy board terrible autoroute, unlabeled headers are for some other boards I …

Re: Newly made PCMCIA sound card

both is possible, I am not that current on soundcard stuff all my pcmcia development til now was ethernet/serial card related. MPU-401 will be expected at 330h/331h and IRQ2/9 Adlib/OPL will be expected at 388h/389h no IRQ is that correct? I would also like to have included my already working …

Re: HardMPU, anyone?

It just needs a proper CIS so the host knows what it is and what resources it needs. I would copy the functionality of an existing card i.e. scp-55 to avoid having to write my own drivers/enablers for different platforms, or patch games to use non-standard i/o addresses etc.

Re: Newly made PCMCIA sound card

Has there been any progress on this or any new interest? I replied in the HardMPU thread but thought I would post here. I am about to create a card that implements a "hardmpu" and pairs it to the dream.fr 2695 midi chip. Has anybody already done something like this that I can avoid re-inventing the …

Re: HardMPU, anyone?

Sorry if this has already been repeated, but has anybody put this hardmpu into a pcmcia card? I saw it contemplated but no follow up. I am about to do this but I do not want to reinvent the wheel. My plan is the HardMPU and the dream.dr SAM2695 on a 16bit pccard.

I will post updates on github for this sidecar project. I will also update here with summary information for any spectators. There is a discussion function at github that may be useful for organizing some specific discussion threads about this little project. https://github.com/yyzkevin/lxsidecar …

Re: *The DOS HP Palmtop discussion topic for users of HP 95LX, 100LX, 200LX and 1000CX Palmtops*

Thanks this is quite helpful, and there are some thinfax floating around on various sites/ebay so I should be able to get my hands on one. Yes I am aware of the newmedia one, however as it was described to me it was a ROM with some communication utilities and not a flash. There was one for sale on …

Yeah circuitmaker is uninstalled. no thank you. I used it 5 years ago to make a pcb for my wedding table signs , but had not touched it since mainly used Altium Designer and then at home CircuitStudio. So for sure will use github to organize the information https://github.com/yyzkevin/lxsidecar In …

Re: *The DOS HP Palmtop discussion topic for users of HP 95LX, 100LX, 200LX and 1000CX Palmtops*

re: circuitmaker I actually kind of hate it already, I thought it would closer to the other Altium tools I use but it is not, looks like it has been left to die. I thought it would be nice for collaboration. So maybe we will not use it and stick to more traditional place to publish information and …

Re: *The DOS HP Palmtop discussion topic for users of HP 95LX, 100LX, 200LX and 1000CX Palmtops*

I do not have Psion but they do look cool. It is a fairly recent development that I have started back into some old technology. It hurts buying stuff I threw out years ago. I saw this application you are working on somewhere, I don't know if somebody posted that picture on twitter or I read about it …
